I need my mini painted, can someone suggest a good but reasonably priced painter on the southside of Brisbane? It needs to have the old paint stripped first the painted, also could you please give approx prices, the body is very stright.

Cheers

Hmmm good painters in Brisbane.... Rocking horse sh1t...

Good painters who don't charge the earth, even rarer..

Glen Carpenter has a couple of cars in his shop that have been painted by "A couple of Islander blokes a few streets away". Apparently they charge around $1500 to paint a prepped shell.

The cars look pretty good but definately not show quality. Better than many other $1500 paint jobs though.

There is a sand blaster nearby that Glen uses too. They appear to be able to strip a car without warping panels. I don't know their prices.

So, if you're not a perfectionist, there's an option. Not a recommendation though. You make up your own mind.

I hate choosing paint shops.

I really really wish there was a Mini-only place.

A mini place that built the nicest cars.
Everything from fitting the tyres to the rims; to painting the body, hanging the doors and bootlids, and fitting the glass; right through to rebuilding the engine.

Maybe I'll be an entrepreneur. One day.

you need to know if you what type of paint you want to use, 2pk etc, the body might seem straight but you have to make sure, a new paintjob will show any bad spots.
when you strip your paint, if you do, you might find that there is a bit more work than you thought (hopefully not) eg. rust etc.
now is the time to fix those things properly if they are there.
its a question of "how long is a piece of string"
so many options mate

I really just want to take it to a painter and say strip/repair(if any)/paint but would like a approx price first. I am willing to take everything off eg. windows out, engine etc.

Cheers

To give you an idea as to prices.........

This job was done in Glasurit 2K and not stripped to bare metal (which it probably should have been but the owner didnt want to open that can of worms). Probably had roughly 40 hours of repairs done to get it straight and some rust cut out and correct boot lid badge holes fitted and old ones welded up. 2K putty and topcoat.

Ideally the car should have been bare metalled but this would have tripled the cost as it had plenty of old paint and previous repairs and the owner only wanted it "tidied up"

This was around $3500-4000 this job and was only taken on because the customer had been coming to the shop for 30 years and the boss liked him as a person. The car was in the shop for a month...........A $3500 smash repair will be in the shop for 3-4 days and the tradesman typically only have to do their repairs....not fix 30 years of previous and usually substandard repairs as well. This is why most smash repairers dont need to do this kind of work no matter how glamorous we all think it is.

There's plenty of shops around who will take your cash and give you back a car......Either have deep pockets for the more well known resto shops or be happy with a lesser quality job done on the cheap by a smaller bloke working in a garden shed.

Or probably the best option is to give it a go yourself.......there's plenty of guys here who will offer their opinions and be able to help ya out.
