personaly i dont think its a cooper.
Quote:
UNFORTUNATLY IT DOES NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL ID TAGS OR ANY BADGES BUT I HAVE SPOKEN TO A FEW MINI ENTHUSIESTS WHO HAVE POINTED OUT SOME OF THE FEATURES THAT ONLY THE COOPERS HAVE:

AIR SCOOP IN FRONT GRILL, ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP MOUNTED ON THE SUBFRAME, 2 STEEL BRACKETS FOR THE HEATER UNDER THE IGNITION.

air scoop? electric fuel pump on subframe? steel brackets for heater? my 62 850 has all that stuff apart from a "air scoop".
also what about the diag front grille brace. maybe coopers didnt have them.
crack head or not. sounds like an ok guy, maybe he got ripped off

No diagonal brace on the 998/997 cooper , anyone going to ask him for more details etc ?

I just told him that the Cooper should have 7" disc brakes.
As it should.

i also thought all the 997/970/998/1071/1275 coopers had boot boards.
did 63 coopers have deluxe style wind up doors?
also about the air scoop, its a fresh air duct that goes to the firewall isnt it? not for the carbs or anything

The air scoop can be seen in the second picture, it isn't Cooper specific a lot of 850s had them too. Sounds to me like an 850 with a factory fitted fresh air heater. Certainly doesn't have Cooper doors!

Either way, assuming it is registerable without the build plate, doesn't seem like to bad money for what you get.

No. They didn't start making the Deluxe wind-up doors till 1965.

What's that going to achieve if it doesn't have a build plate?

The car would have a number stamped under the bonnet.
The body number is a clue to working out what the car is.

If it does not have any numbers under the bonnet you will have a hard time getting rego. 8)

Yes but the number stamped on the firewall won't tell you if it is a Cooper or not. Not on an early model car at least.

What about the one on the radiator shroud? Should have YKA2S? ???? there shouldn't it?

Author:  Anto [ Tue Mar 27, 2007 9:24 pm ]

Not on early models. Well at least mine doesn't. Later models like Mini Ks has YG2S4 or whatever on the shroud. They also omitted the 'K' / 'M' on late models, which makes things more difficult.
