In my experience pull the clips out and use adhesive, there to fiddly to bother with in my opinion, or Im just to uncoordinated to work out how they work

Hey guys, I'm doing my boot seal and have NFI how to work with the clips? My mechanic said he doesn't bother and just uses an adhesive which works fine. If anybody can supply me with the good advice on using the clips I'd rather use them (I have a tendancy to end up with sticky crap all over me and everything surrounding when I start playing with grease/glue/sealants). dewey |

I have found the best way to stick rubber to metal is with a very small amount of superglue, and I mean A SMALL AMOUNT. I did the boot seal on my last mini, just start from one end and putt a spot of superglue down and stick seal into place, then about 2 cm along another spot of supergle and press seal into place. THis way takes a long time but gave me a good result. Dont try and put down a whole load of glue and then stick the seal into place as this is really hard and if you are like me you will end up with a mess and sticking your fingers together. |

I use quick grip, you simply paint it on both surfaces, wait about 2mins till it goes tacky and press it together. I have done this with my last two minis and never had a problem. Steve. |

Scotchgrip 1357 is the ducks nuts, but a right royal pain in the arse to work with. Real stringy and crap, but by gawd, does it stick seals down. Oh yeah same application method, apply it to both parts you're sticking together, let it go tacky for abou 5 minutes, then apply it. Dont forget to sand back the surface of the rubber seal to be bonded |

Steve. I'm with Stevo there... i have recently done my clubby and its a PITA!!! Hardcore  I had to chock the front wheels, with the handbrake on so i could push hard enough to close it up... do it on a warm day and maybe the rubber might be a little softer.
And loosen off the bolts on the lock catch thingo so u get maximum openage (if there's such a word) and still be able to close/lock it. Good luck. |

Guys, funny i just fitted a new boot rubber this arvo. I'm with oz, small amounts of superglue are the go for getting the results u need. I found that any other adhesive is too hard to get the rubber in place and hold it there without it pulling off again 
All in all it tuned out quite well, will post up a pic tomorrow |

Ahhhh, good point. I had the assistance of edge clamps and Cleco Pliers to hold the seal down till it went off |

Yea, as of yesterday I am done with buffing JAM, so I am on to fitting my rubbers. After reading this thread, I am thinking the superglue option might be a winner. Nothing sux more than trying to hold something in place while glue dries. Those clips are apparently $1.20 each AND you need about 24 or something cRaZy like that.  Plain old glue wins hands down.

Are you meant to buy the clips each time you fit a new rubber? Do you start by fixing the clips onto the seal and then pushing them in? All my clips are still in the boot... I don't think I'll be able to get them out without breaking them. dewey |

I was doing my best at being a tight ass, and removed some clips from a wrecked mini....
Half broke when I tried to get them out, and the other half were rusty and not worth using. I soaked them overnight in some rust treating stuff, and they disintegrated
