Just wondering if a car can be registerred on club plates in NSW with a full roll cage ? I know you can't with normal rego but club plates are different given they are technically an unregisterred vehicle permit and not a normally registered car .

Yep.

Here is an excerpt from the Clubs historic plates scheme document:-

11) Period style racing/rallying accessories and modifications, such as rollcages,
sway bars, competition seats, exhaust extractors, gauges, carburettors, replacement
gearboxes, LSD's, Terratrips, Halda's, Intercoms, maplights, fire extinguishers,
safety triangles etc are acceptable, where fitted to a competition vehicle in a style
that mirrors historic early accessories.(i.e. no gauges on A pillars or attached to the
outside of the vehicle.) Engine bay competition modifications and attachments such
as oil catch tanks, strut braces etc where required or allowed by CAMS are also
considered acceptable.

Woohoo , thank's Julie , was thinking it'd be a waste to only use the back half of my bond roll cage .

i had a chat with buggsy about this last meeting, as i would lik to have my weekend warrior on club plates to save having a trailer.

basically, if it looks like it could be a historic rally car and meet the production rally car rules. if it has the interior fully stripped out like mine, then it does not meet the "spirit" of the historic rally/registered race car that this clause is meant for. so you will need to at least keep interior sufficient to meet historic production rally car rules.

Best if you email Buggsy direct (via MCC website), and arrange to call him about it. He will probably want to see photos before saying go ahead and fill your boots.

John McMecan has a nice little car on club plates with a roll cage, and Buggsy has his rally 240Z as well.

cheers
Michael

I think the BEST way to get an answer is to pick up the phone and call the HISTORIC PLATE registrar of the MCCNSW. Details in the club website.

That is of course if you will be doing it through the MCCNSW.

However, the good people above have given good advice.

This will be through a local club as I believe if I go through the MCC I'll have to take the mini to Sydney for the club to inspect it each year (2nd hand info , open to correction on this one ?) . I'll delve further into it , just wasn't sure where to start about the regs as there is a lot of misinformation about with club plates ...

Apparently there are RULES, which each club interpret differently, so talk to your local club before spending $.

Yeah , will do , it's not a matter of spending money though , it's fitting the stuff i have sitting around already , the rear half is going in regardless but the front half looks good so I'd like to use it as well and it'll fit in with the theme .

whatever club you do it with, make sure you talk to the guy who is the club plate official - like Anton says - no one elses opinion matters. talk to them about long distances as well - you may be surprised what can be managed
