Post subject: | HELP OIL LEAK |
My 76 clubman has developed a oil leak where the rod change for gearbox goes into the engine, Question is can I change this oil seal by disconnecting the coupling on the rod where it goes into gear box and then try to remove the old seal , Thanks Felix |

It's a rod change , they came standard from the factory with a leak there .... Just drive out the horizontal spring pin (closest to the gearbox) on the coupler with a pin punch and pull out the old seal . You shouldn't have to remove anything else , the gear linkage will pull back enough to get out of the way . Make sure you get all the old seals out , the done thing used to be to push a new one on top of the old leaking one and there can be a few in there (seen 5 squashed on top of each other , no wonder it didn't seal ...) . You can also check with Matt Read (theminiman here) about his o-ring seals which will work better than the normal seal . |
