Post subject:  window rubbers

TAKE 2:
ok last week i had my windows tinted for the mini and saturday i was gonna put them in, but the rubbers were all to big.

i trimmed the rear quarter ones, and the front door ones(i havent done the felts and stuff yet as the doors arent on.)

i went to fit the rear winndscreen but the rubber was way too big, like a couple of inches too big, exactly the same with the front windscreen i tried both rubbers i had and they were both ske wiff.

any ideas why? ill give the supplier a ring today toi find out whats goin on. :?

I think there meant to be like that - when I re-did all the rubbers and things in my car I remember having to chop off 2-3 inches from the door rubbers because they were too long, doesn't stop them sealing well.

Just use some side cutters.

Wait a minute - just re-read your post, are you talking about the door rubbers that stop the rain from coming in or the window felts that the window winds up and down in (in the actual door)?

Man, how hard can it be to get some sidecutters/scissors and cut them to the EXACT length that you need? :?
I'd rather them be a couple of inches too long than too short!! If they were too short you would have something to actually complain about  Think about it before you start ranting at the supplier.
In fact, you'll probably find they are quite deliberately supplied oversize to allow for individual trimming and fitting. When I bought new rubbers for my MG I had to trim them to length, and I ended up with an exact fit.

My mini dosnt have front window rubbers.... I have door rubbers, quarter vent rubbres, bailey channel (felt stuff that the window runs up and down in) and window seals that run across the top of the door on the inside and outside of the window.

So wat seals are u actually talking about?????

Well ive always thought that the windscreen was called the windscreen..... And the windows were called windows.....?

OK, that clears everything up then - easier to understand now.

I'm with you Hanra, I always thought a windscreen was called a windscreen.

My bedroom also has windows. 8)

Windscreen rubbers can be easily cut to the right length, you just glue the join. With most old cars the only way to get rubbers is cut to length.
But if you have bought a moulded rubber with corners it should be the right length from the word go. Have a quiet chat to the supplier and see what he says.

I'd probably prefer you didn't use "ffs" directed towards me, mate. There's no need for it. Just trying to help you.
It's no wonder me and a couple of others were so confused - look what you've written above -
"and the back window, door and quarter rubbers were too big so as stated above i trimmed them to size"
Followed by:
"but theresn no way im cutting my front and rear window rubbers".
You gotta admit, that does get a little confusing, eh?

Hope you sort it out anyway.
Peter.

lets not get in a argument, but the comma was inveted as a form of a pause in a sentence, so like borat:

front window
and back window "pause/," door and quarter rubbers were too big i just trimmed them to size

maby i should have just started a new line

and sorry bout the angry ness, duno what was really goin on,

i just took ur first post as a dig at me n ye sorry.

and to everyone else they were bought as a kit for a roundnose mini sedan :x from a reputable mini place. i have the reciept, so ill give them a ring, the tinter/ window putteriner had done hundreds, and didnt have to ever cut the rubber, its a 1 piece jobby.

cheers

ibought all my rubbers from ......... :P abouta year and a bit ago, and theyve been sitting waiting for this day,

ney way thismorning we went to this old dudes hows to look at kombis of all things,he has 500+ cars no crap.

there wouold be 20+ minis out there too, all in a paddock, so prolly not very useable, they have compliance plates, mostly 850s and deluxes, no koopers.

and when we got home we decided to put my windows in.
and bugger me dead all teh rubbers are WAY to big,

like 1 rubber goes around the front window, and has about 2 inches of play left in the rubber, the other 1 has about 4/5 left

ffs theyll be getting a phoone call, u would think that they would know what rubbers to sell people, now ill have to wait again to organisse to get my windows put in, and anotther hour and a bit drive cos they stuffed up.

AAARGH

end rant/bitch/moan

I just can't see why people bother anyway. I read the whole original post and for the life of me couldn't understand most of it, so I gave up. If he wouldn't make the effort to write in English, I can't see why we have to learn to understand mad-mk1-ish.
