Post subject: | Brake pads of choice |
It's time to order my brake pads for the metro 4 pot conversion and it seems that there is a lot of choice of pad. Most of my driving is around town with the occasional blast (may be once a month) on country roads. My car has (or will have once I get around to fitting it) one of Ben's SC12 kits. What would be the best pad? EBC green stuff or black stuff, Mintex 1144, or the carbon/metal pads? I'm tending towards the EBC Black stuff pads. |

I have blacks on the wife's car and greens on mine, IMO the greens are better. Blacks fade lots sooner... ![]() |

Doc: Is the initial bite from teh greens the same as the blacks? I've got the greens on the bike and they're fine, but it's not exactly apples against apples when you compare them to blacks on a my (now sold...sniff) Cooper S. |

I'd say there's little in it on 1st bite, but what I like about the greens is they are still working after they get stinkin' hot. ![]() The blacks go away and sulk after a 1/2 hearted workout. I had them quit coming down Kurrajong hill (but I did provoke them). ![]() I hear Mintex M1144s are OK too but I've not used them. |

Thanks guys. So it seems like the Green Stuff would be fine around town to pull me up when cold and still ok if I really need them when going quickly. I guess it makes you wonder why they even do a black stuff. My impression is that the Mintex 1144 are good for hard road/ light race use but not so good around town, whereas sounds like green stuff will be OK for both. |

I still like the black stuff, they are great pads, but it just depends on how hard you try to fade them!. Especially as they are soooo cheap for the blacks. |

I've got EBC black's in my 1275 LS (8.4"). A heap better than whatever crap was in it before I changed (no idea what it had). I've driven another 1275 LS with green's, and they took alot more warming up. I love the black's, perfect for a daily driver. I was also very happy with the price, 1/2 of what the greens are. |

69elf - I'm running greenstuff in vented 8.4's which is your set-up? Initial bite is just fine, and after a damn good thrashing around both Taupo and Manfeild I had no fade what so ever (unlike all the turbo honda boys!). You can get 'quite good' pads for a lot less money, but they'll give up if you ever do decide to do a track day on the off chance. However greenstuffs with be good on track and still handle your around town work. |

I use the Mintex ... they work well, just have to clean the brake dust daily. |

Balcks work for me, 1/2 price. If not racing, then no need for greens |

I'll pay that one.... ![]() ![]() I reckon the blacks might survive 1 hard lap of Wakefield Park during a drive day, then they'll curl their toes up... ![]() |
