I'm driving along and all of a sudden it's like a massive gust of wind has just blown straight into the front of the Mini, then it's ok again. Keep on driving same thing, I checked the trees, no wind, I was the only car of the road, no wind off a passing truck??? It's not that the engine is konking out or anything, just feels like a massive gust of wind has hit you head on. It's my 1993 Rover Mini Mayfair that this is happening too, not sure when plugs and leads were last changed? Thanks for help in advance. |

Efi, well actually SPI, but yeah. I run it on Premium and I also put in a bottle of that Winns Spitfire stuff which I doubt does anything. I'd been away for 5 weeks and it hadn't been driven just been sitting there. Thanks. |

Could be a fuel blockage my daughter had a problem with her fue l pump on her clubbie. It was very similair and we could not figure it out until we narrowed it down. Replaced pump and all ok now. When the motor was starved of some fuel it felt like it was drving in wind sort of. |

Could even be just the fuel filter, it doesn't matter if you have changed it recentley, it only tales one bad dose of fuel...... ![]() |

g'day leigh it's your fuel filter. i had a similar problem a little while ago, does your mini's engine do the same thing when you rev it lots whil;st not moving? if not, its the same thing i had. change the filter, it costs about $5 from any servo, the one i used is a Ryco Z14 (i think). comes with clamps. if it doesnt solve the problem you have a new filter anyway, not sure how often this has to be renewed??? |

It's an Spi, from experience a blocked fuel filter acts more like the engine is running rich and blows black smoke. This is because not enough presure is getting through to the injectors to allow the fuel to atomise properly. Mine does something similar when it's cold as the MEMS changes the mixture as the engine warms up and the oxygen levels and the manifold presure changes. Under slight acceleration you can feel the changes in pulling power as the mixture changes by small steps. Check the MAP Sensor tube doesn't have some fluid in it - take it off and blow through. Also dab something absorbant on the fixture where it connects to the bottom of the MEMS unit in case some liquids have got in there. |
