alrite... so when you open and close the doors on the mini (my 77 clubman) there are the spring loaded switches for what i assume is the interior light. The ones that in a modern car would turn the light off when the door is closed and turn it on when the door is open...

Well anyway, first of all could anyone tell me whether they are hooked up to the interior light and if not, what they are hooked up to? And... the actual spring loaded switch part of the driver side mechanism has become detached from the wiring that is located in what i think is the A-panel???. I cant for the life of me work out how to re-attach it... Does anyone know what im talking about and, if so, have any advice or answers?

It should be connected to the switch and yes the light... when you close the door it OPENS the circuit... (breaks the circuit) and the light turns OFF

Then, when you open the door, the switch extends and makes contact (and closes) the circuit and light goes on

Does the other door switch work?

Peter.

Yeah, true... but I grabbed a bunch at Pick and Payless and the guy looked at me funny when I went to pay... and said
'Is that it?'
I said, 'Yep' and he said... 'Cya' :D

Try your local wrecker, might give you some free too...

Peter.

the other switch is still connected and i suppose it is still working, but because the driver side one is not connected i figure the circuit is always closed and therefore its purpose isnt served... I just need to know how to reconect the switch to the wire because the switch is fine, jus disconnected

I have fitted aftermarket ones from a local spares place. $7 fo a pair and no probs fitting them.

To get the wire out of the hole in your A panel cavity.....get some firm but small diameter wire and bend it into a tight 'U' shape. Push it into the hole, and try to hook the PURPLE wire and bring it out of the hole.

Karcraft sells the late Rover ones, they fit either Oz roundnose or Clubby. Very well made, in Malta.
Around $7 ea +GST.
I have had them in my `70 Mini for years, no probs.

Iv been able to get a hold of the wire to pull it through the hole, but the piece on the end of the wire just doesnt seem to physically fit throught the hole... I might have to give it another go next week and see what i can accomplish with another hour of cursing and fiddling.

There is a jack or an attachment of some kind connected to the end of the wire that i couldnt fit through the hole. It may have just been the angle I was trying to pull it through at, but I have to wait until at least tomorrow afternoon to have another play so I will see how I go then.
