Post subject:  Things you find while stripping a car

Hey there everyone,

Been having some fun taking back my LS1275 to bare metal and am now working on the insides. This morning I finally worked out how to get the seat belt mechanisms unbolted and removed (ie - pull out as much strap as possible to allow a racket in).

Anyhow, managed to find a gold earing and 76 cents in change. Don't know wear the gold earing came from as none of my girlfriends ever complained about missing any :-)

Also have found lots of broken windscreen glass behind the dash - some to the pain of my fingers while poking around trying to loosen engine mount bolts.

Noticed that the seat belt mechanisms both had a hand written date of 28/6/78. Did Leyland write the date on these parts as they were installed into the shells or when they were received/inspected. According to the plate my LS1275 is dated as 78/8 manufacture.

So - what other interesting things have people found in there cars that they were not responsible for?

Cheers,
Birty

If you do a search, there is a story posted on here about someone finding a box of 6 vibrators/dildos under the seat of a car they just bought.

The wierdest thing that I have ever found is an old (AA) battery that had almost split apart, it was rusty and the amount of acid coming out - haven't found any $50 notes or anything yet...... BTW if you find any $50's there mine! Nah, just joking.

Not a mini, but I once had a Brock Commodore (VH). I had bought it secondhand from the holden dealer when the original owner traded it in. As it was a relatively small town (Bathurst), I happened to work at the same place as the guy who traded it in.

I then sold it to my neighbour a couple of years later and he found behind the dashboard an upopened pay packet containing nearly $1000 bucks when he was installing a new stereo, the pay packet was from the original owner. He'd obviously placed it up there and driven off and at some stage it had fallen down an airvent opening only to be rediscovered after my ownership when he decided to put a new CD player in.

He applied the finders keepers rule and neither shared it with me, or the original owner.

Not a Mini either, but an imported 2 seater sports car from the USA. Lots of empty rifle shell casings and even some live ammo that had slipped under the seat cushions.

Don't you just love customs and their so-called quarantine inspections?

My Corona had three or four unused cigarettes, two used ones in the Ash-tray, three cigarette lighters, a man's belt, some drawing pins, several Yen coins and a packet of "Humding" brand throat lozenges inside it. All Japanese branded. Lots of dust too.

I paid Kiwi to clean it before the car was put on the ship! The engine bay and undercarriage was immaculate, but he inside was filthy.

Oh, and there was a dirty great sticker on the windscreen - QUARANTINE PASSED.

I guess I can't conmplain. They could have torn the car apart instead!

My brother got an old bag of dope in the boot of a Gemini Diesel (probably to make you think the car is going fast)

The date on the seat belt would be different from the build date on the plate because the plate is fitted when the car was ready to be delivered, not when the car was built.
