Hi,

In my recently recieved (thanx again!) expansion tank for the radiator, there are two electrical terminals.

Can anyone help out with what they are for?

They'd either have a low coolant level switch on the inside or they are just a creative way for somebody to acquire earth at that spot.

Maybe another temp sender?, low coolant more likely

They had those fancy bits more like low coolant didn't they

Not sure of it's origin, but perhaps. If it is a low coolant level, how do I check it / use it?

Hook it up to a warning light somewhere, but how?

start off by checking if there is actually something in there....

since the catch tank is usually rubber mounted, the one to the body would probably to an earth, the other one would go to the negative side of a light.

check the resistance across the terminals, then half fill it with water and check it again, if no difference, fill it with boiling water and check it again....

let us know the results!

You may be lucky and it is just a switch.
Try it with a multimeter and check the resistance, and then fill it up and try again.

Just looked though the Aussie Marina manual and there is no mention of any switch on the tank.
I wonder if it could be MG or Triumph?

I would guess it was a low water alarm. It would probably run to some sort of control box and then to a light.

I have two of those identical with electrical connectors, both from (I know as I removed them at U-pull it) Rover 3500 SD1 thing, or a Van De plas (excuse spelling, which is a later Sd1 Rover, V8)

Rover Vandeplas, not a bad car, my family had one a while back it was alright, silly shaped steering wheel though hahaha.

It's a switch which no longer works when coolant goes below it, well on mine it is, so some sort of realy would be needed to turn a light on when the circuit broke. And yes they were rubber mounted. I now use one from a 70s Range Rover, much bigger, wide not tall, no electrical switch though but fits in above the alternator in a roundnose (just).
