Cheezels starter motor is going going gone (almost) Want to put a new one in but unsure what to replace with. Should I use Gemini or another Mini one. Don't care about it looking original in there just need it to be reliable. If using a gemini one do I need to use any other faceplates etc to allow for differences. Engine is an 1100 long stroke with mild cam if that makes any difference. Thanks. Determined to do this job myself and not go to mechanics. |

A Gemini bolts in once you slot the holes in its mounting flange. Alternative that's easier is a NEW pre-engaged starter from Heritage MG, Smithfield, Sydney.. www.mgspareparts.com.au p/no is HMG815. It bolts straight into all Oz Minis, no mods needed at all. Price is around $150 which is cheap for a new starter. Warning- will not fit if you have a Cooper S 13 row oil cooler in a roundnose. |

Would this classify as being slotted or do the holes need more still??? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/mini-or-gemini-s ... dZViewItem [/img] |

That looks very similar to the one I suggested.. Can't tell from that pic if holes are slotted, but if it needs it it's 10 mins work with a decent file. Ask the seller if it bolts straight in, my reading of his blurb suggests yes. |

I would say yes. It's not new but if reconditioned properly, is as good as. |

Thanks to all for advice. Went to the spare parts place around the corner this morning to see what he had. As per usual considering he deals in parts for old cars (could spend hours in there) he told me to bring mine in and he would sell me a reconditioned one for $140. Considering I need the car this week did it all, and now all the prob's I seemed to be having are all gone. As above thanks to all for their advice and help! ![]() |
