Y = Australian; M = Morris; A = A-series; 2S = 2 door saloon; 1 means "1st series" 1960-1964.

Y = Australian
M = Morris
A = 800cc to 999cc
2S = 2 door saloon
1 = 1st model in range = Mini 850 (2 = Deluxe, 3 = Mini-Minor)

With the engine numbers 8AM / U / H 657885 is a British built motor and 8Y U H 14368 is an Australian motor.
8 = 800 to 899 (so it must be an 850)
Y = Australian
U = Magic wand gearchange
H = High Compression.

Acording to my Dulux book Tartan Red was used in 1963 and 64.

Sports 850 will probably be able to narrow it down better.

October/November 1963 according to the body number and engine number (8AMUH) , interesting though BMC seemed to have mixed the UK (8AM numbers) engines with the AUst (8YUH numbers) around as skssgn's friends mini is 400 bodies older than yours and has an Aussie engine (engine number around 1000, yours has a UK one and Marcello's who's is 200 newer than yours has an Aussie engine .

For what it's worth , the 8YUH engine number is around September 1964 .

I'm not sure if it means anything but my 64 850 Van's original engine is also 8YUH #####. It's a pity there is not a lot of information around on interior colours etc. I'd love to track down all of the info on mine and get it back to original and know for sure that it's right.
