Post subject:  Crack in Extractors

Hi Guys,
I am now the proud owner of a set of LCB extractors with a large crack in the centre branch about 2 inches from the point where they bolt onto the head.
1. Can this be repaired or are they stuffed.
2. Is this a common Mini problem?
3. What is the most likely cause and what can I do to stop it happening again.

Thanks,

worn engine mounts will give you a wobbly engine that , if the exhaust mounts are good can bend the exhaust...

and the reverse is also true..

good engine mounts, bad exhaust mounts

Yeah it's repairable with a mig, but look at the cause like Cush said or you will be back at it in a few weeks.

it happened to me, so it's quite possible that it's a common thing.. ;)

SPI Rover's must have a flexi joint near the front otherwise it will keep happening

I had my extractors crack (not a flash pair, not sure of the brand, 3-1's) but it was caused by hitting a puddle after a long drive, the cold water on the hot extractors just cracked them like cold water on a hot plate. Took em to an exhaust shop, they said it wasn't worth rewelding because the metal had gone brittle and it would just crack again. I'm guessing that because yours are cracked up the top this wouldn't be the case, but something to keep in mind..

Peace

Hmmm. I took out the flexi pipe when I fitted the extractors. Now I'm thinking not such a great idea.

Engine mounts appear to be OK.

Although my wife drove my car last week so maybe I could point the finger in that direction.
