Post subject:  Announcement About Spammers - Please Read

Please PLEASE, for the love of you local deity, STOP voicing your frustration at the posters of porn spam.

There IS NOT a person on the end of it.

They are logged in, generated automatically by scripts.

So please stop swearing at them. It's pointless.

While cush mightn't be exactly correct , his idea is . A lot of these are actually people signing up and then using the spambots to post to get past the squiggly writing ID at the new sign up page , replying to them is pointless as they are long gone by the time you've replied . It also makes it harder for the mods to find the spam as we normally skim through looking for odd names with unreplied posts and then check , rather than having to go through each new post with a reply to see if the originator was a spammer .

Ian...if you go to memberlist and sort it by the latest you can see what they have been up to....this chore, however, would distract from your enjoyment of Ausmini....Cheers, Mick

You got it Mick, essentially what we are asking for is for people to not reply so that the task of cleaning up the crap is easier. Between the four of us we are struggling to keep the board free of the rubbish that clogs up all of our inboxes, and are asking for a little bit of co-operation. 8)

oh.....I always thought there were Indian Spam Centres, full of Indians registering on forums and posting links to Soma...or whatever it is.

Do you mean to tell me that I was mistaken? No Indian Spam Centres?

Somewhere out there, somebody is getting paid a pittance to register then copy and paste this crap. They used to use bots, however now the stuff is far too random for it to appear to be the work of bots. 8)

I actually took note how many people had signed up at the time I got off yesterday because I reckon spammers are getting worse. 15 people signed up overnight! Now if only ½ of these actually posted the amount that some have been posting that is alot of porn/pills links to clean up.

I feel sorry for you guys (mods) - You guys must hate being the first to get on here in the mornings.

When I first got on thismorning I had to remove 37 posts , some hidden in threads some as new threads , each one involves a 4 step process and takes time . I've got no idea when the last mod was on last night but I'm guessing those 37 posts were made between say 11 pm and 6:30am . Several of them you can see come from the same place (but alwways fresh IP address's) as they are identical posts with the same crap and scattered through the same threads and in the same number (often 12 by the same person) . A lot of them now register and don't post at the time come back in a day or so thinking they've slipped under the radar (some sites must check all posts by members in their first 24 hours or so ???) . Also , if you see a big number of new registrations but no posts it probably means we've cleared their crap out before you got on .

If something like that happens, where you've got a spammer joining and making say forty posts of crap, do you have the option to delete the user as well as all their posts in the one go? Or do you have to go through and do each on individually?

Also, do you delete the username when you do this or just leave it active?

deleting the user could be a bad thing... especially if fluff heads want to reply and yell at them....

i would imagine that the ban button could be used, but i'm guessing ausmini doesn't have one..
