mines a 67 and it doesnt have rear seatbelts.

My understanding of the ADR is that cars prior to about 72 I think it was, didnt have to have rear seat belts.
BUT - if they have been installed in the back , you cant take them out.

Cass.

I don't even think they had to have fronts at the time, they were available as options on the front.

The clubmans I believe were the first to have rear belts.

As I recal front seatbelts is 64 onwards as mandatory, prior it's optional but IMO highly recommended.

Their shouldn't be rear seat belt mounts, if so it's probably illegal and not engineered. The front mounts however would be original.

I would be wary - I have had some 66 cars and they have had factory seat belts. You need to check on that

In any case you dont need to be puddling around the roads without a seat belt regardless of the requirements of the vehicle for that time. Seat belts do save lives and they do reduce injuries in an impact.

Yeah a 66 should have front belts (so should any mini IMHO no matter what the date of manufacture, unless you are an american, or just dumb).

They always had the front mounts on the car from the earliest days, even if belts were an option. Rear belts from clubman onwards only.

I'm only going off what I've been told on this.

And I also beleve that everycar should have seatbelts for every passenger.

I was driving Minis in the 60s, seat belts in front were mandatory only from 1966 on.
I got wrapped around a tree in late 1965, no belts in the Mini (not mine).

Rear belts came in from 1971/72 I think, my 1970 has no anchor points so I don't carry fat chicks or anybody else in back.

Rear seat belts were an option from at least 1965. I have the option list right here.
Seat belts
Quote:
HYH2693 Safety Belt (Rear Seat) £4.10.0 ($9.00)
HYB535 Safety Belt (Sash) £4.10.0 ($9.00)
HYH883 Safety Belt (Lap & Sash) £5.5.0 ($10.50)
