I cant seem to get rid of a "surging" problem that I have when cruising. Not so noticable in suburban driving but when on the hwy it can sometimes be really bad.
I have put a straight through rubber hose in place of the non existant vacuum advance. That helped a lot but it is still there.
Is this a fuel problem, I have mucked out the bowls, or is this a firing problem.
Do you think one of those dizzies in the mini experience would fix it or is it time for me to put a kit through the twin 1.25's, which are tuned okay by the way.

Any ideas greatfully accepted.

Could be your fuel pump isn't keeping up with the demand, particularly at high loads over long bursts.

No problems about the streets or accelrating from lights?

All garage work involves equal measures of enthusiasm, ingenuity and a fair degree of irresponsibility.

I would put my money on a fuel supply problem. As always, eliminate the easy stuff first before chasing unlikely things.

1. check your fuel filter (or simply change it for a new one)
2. Make sure there is not a fuel leak in the line somewhere.
3. Make sure your fuel pump (if electric) does not need the points cleaned, relplaced or adjusted)
4. Make sure the fuel pump (if manual) has not split a diaphram and is not delivering properly.
5. Check the float levels on the fuel bowls since you have been in there recently.

Then
Check the distributor points and the timing

Its sure to be something above.

If all else fails
Get some carby cleaner and spray that around the manifold, where the carbies bolt on and near the spindles (not at the air filters though). if the revs rise - then its sucking air somewhere.
