just think of the aerodynamic advantage if you take the windscreens out aswell..

Heya all im wanting to cut out the back parcell shelf area in my morrie, is there a certain way it needs to be done? the shell has a cage, so it is kinda braced, but where should I weld in extra bracing if needs be. thanks! |

for racing i assume? i think it would require bracinga s it adds a fair bit of strenngth to the car. i would personally attack it with the angle grinder and tehn assesit from there cheers |

don't do it..... even with a cage, it's a structural member, and mods to that area will need an engineers certificate - even cutting the parcel shelf for speakers is a bad idea |

Why would you remove it anyway man? weight...... Dont really see the point, unless that is you have taken weight from every other single place you can think of. |

The motorbike engined mini's in the UK have an integral rollcage subframe thingo going on back there, which would restore a lot of the strength, but we all know how dam impossible a bike engined mini would be to register here. |

why dont you just cut holes where the cage goes through, and if you get sick of your cage you'll have holes for speakers. and your shell will be stiffer if you left it in and just cut around it |

and your shell will be stiffer if you left it in and just cut around it yeha thats what I ended up starting to do..... then a sharp bit of metal cut thru my grinder cord and gave me quite a shock, im at home now sooking. ill tackle it again tomorrow. |

Regard that electric shock as a warning from the mini god (and there is one and he is advised by Sir Alex) Heed the warning - the parcel shelf is a structural component. Cutting it out will mean your rear is significantly weakened. Even with a cage, when you power around a tight corner and your rear windscreen pops out onto the road showering other cars and pedestrians with glass - will you then go and get a parcel shelf MIG'ed back in The mini god has warned you. |
