Greetings, I'm new to this forum and been reading it since last weekend. I'm thinking of buying a Mini, but I don't know whether I should go the Rover route or buy a restored Mini. I'm not mechanically-savvy, though looking forward to learn more about it and get down and dirty once I got one. Found this dear white Rover (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110117673699) and if I'm not mistaken that Mini belonged to Adam and was sold to Classic Throttle Shop few years ago, but he kept the INIM plate. So did he buy it back or is it another one of his, cuz it looks like the same car to me? The only difference is the year. The one sold few years ago was a '98 Rover and this one is '97. Do you guys think the price is justified? Also, is there a way to tell the difference on a Mayfair and a Cooper from the appearance? Thanking you in advance, Daniel |

welcome to ausmini mate. update your profile info with your location, to make help that little bi easier. it loos like a beautiful mini imo the write up is strange, its alot of money, i personally would put mire detail in the listing. i also notiiced taht there is no photos of the rear of the car on ebay

Yeah, I noticed that too... Why do you mention that? Is there anything on the back that could give away whether it's a Cooper or Mayfair? Daniel |

thats definately adams old car, and might i add those photos are over 2.5years old. I recognize them all and their locations. It was a beautiful car when i say it years ago, but maybe ask the seller for some more recent pics |

Adam Gleeson is the owner, he lives in Innisfail which is 1 hours drive south or Cairns. Its a 97 Rover i think. I never really seen it up close, i think he is selling it to go overseas... |

If it was a Cooper why wouldn't you just say that and leave Mayfair out? For a couple of years before John Cooper came to an agreement with Rover, Cooper kits were sold to japanese owners to fit to their cars, this went on for many years after the cars were re-introduced as well if you couldn't afford the cooper models. They came in a nice timber box and were bolt-on kits of various magnitudes and stages. This may be one of those cars if it can be proven. |

It's not the one from classic throttle shop 18 months ago. That one was automatic. I nearly bought that, but couldn't insure it.

Overpriced. Talk to Steve O'Malley at brickwortx here in Adelaide, or http://www.brickworx.com.au he knows his rover stuff. To me the rover is no better than a 60s mini, but generally has a nicer, more modern interior. Good way to get a modern-ish car with classic look though, but IMO nothing beats a MK1. But each to his own. I think a good, Rover is worth 10-15K, that is very late though so maybe more, but is it any better than an early 90s? |

Sorry to say but I would not pay anywhere near $20,000 for a mini. You can get a completely restored, historic Cooper S for that price if you look around hard enough. $27,000 is the price of a brand new car from a showroom drive away! Even if the car is perfect, you have to ask if it is worth buying a 10yr old car for the price exceeding many good, new cars. Cars are cars. At $27,000 do you think it would appreciate in price? Is $20,000 worth paying for a novelty? (because that's what you are paying for). I think if you look hard enough you will find a S/H BMW MINI for around $25,000! LIKE THIS: http://drive.com.au/used-cars/MINI/COOP ... =768321003 I've seen many nice S's going for around $12 to $18,000 and this is where my money would be. They go good, they look good, they will appreciate in price if looked after well. |

you may say its over priced... but the ones steve sells are upto 88... with a transfered later model engine into it... this one is a 97' with blade fuses... air bags ect... genuine late model car

That mini is Adam's second mini.... also it has Moketsa's old engine in it(2300km)... with a few mods lots of money has been spent on this car. |
