I'll be draining my car sometime at somepoint. I want to know what it is so I can dispose of it properly and know what I'm up against when it leaks all over the driveway. :D

Thanks.

It's basically water and alcohol with a bittering agent added.
I just hose it away, it's pretty harmless. Marginal as a concrete cleaner...
If you can't get the right fluid (I got mine from Karcraft) many people in US and elsewhere use a 50/50 mix of water and ethylene glycol (radiator coolant).

I just need to rid the rusty smelling water, not replace.
The mini is going dry.
:D

Thanks Doc.

Good luck with conversion, hope it doesn't ride like our dry conversion with its 4 nice new Konis does ... (yes it was worse with old shocks on).

Our Clubby van is getting civilised suspension, it's called `hydrolastic' I think. 8)

Hey Doc, what a sensible idea for the van. Give me the hydro any time if you are to spend a lot of time driving a mini, however if you like the 'pedal to the metal' in your driving habits, stick to the dry suspension.

As for the composition of the hydro fluid, there was a thread on it early last year and the agreed mix was 50% pure glycol and 50% water.

Glycol?
Isn't that highly toxic?
Maybe I'll just fill an old oil contaner with it and work it out from there.

Now, How do I get it out of the car, and how much is there? Can I use an old
bike pump hose to direct it into a container? :?

I bet what's in it now is NOT glycol, if it's rusty it's the original water/alcohol stuff.
Glycol and water can be used, however..

to get it out put a wide oil drain tank under the back, use the metal valve cap to push the valve stem in, GENTLY. Watch yer eyes, it's under 250psi+ pressure.
There's only a litre or so in each line.

I use ye olde Mini clutch one, mounted on an upturned Fiat pedal box.
It's worked for me for the last 20 odd years, with the odd set of seals and a few Mini brake hose replacements.
Better than a grease gun I reckon, you don't need to undo it to refill it.
