Post subject:  I think 2nd gear died!!! :( UPDATE

   driving home tonite pulled into the servo and filled up, drove out of the servo drivin normal went to change to 2nd gear jus like normal clutch fully depressed smoothly went to pull into second gear and it crunched and shook the car and wouldnt go into 2nd....meanwhile me sh!ting my pants quickly put it in neutral and selected 4th gear and luckily i was close to my mums bf's mechanic shop so dropped the car off there.... this was extremely weird as second gear has always been very smooth and no problems!!!! ONLY REBUILT THE ENGINE AND GEARBOX JUST OVER A YEAR AGO!!!!!

any ideas as to what has gone wrong??

can the gear box be taken out without the engine being taken out, or must the engine also come out?

Mate, if its crunched and couldnt get in, and it was sudden, you may have a broken Baulk ring (synchro) that happened to mine... fully rebuilt brand new box...

well today was a long day, had uni this mornin and then spent 4.5hrs pulling bits and pieces off my engine in order to pull the engine out on thursday. so far however, when draining the oil this was sticking to the magnet on the sump plug
Image
looks to me like a tooth off a gear, not to mention all the other fragments on the magnet.
here is the engine ready to be pulled out
Image
now is the eager wait for thursday to see the damage

I reckon you've stripped 2nd gear, and/or the cluster gear..
I'd make sure the rest of the box is all good when you rebuild it.
I did up an S box for a certain person on this forum, had same problem- and it was missing the needle roller bearing off the mainshaft nose!

He don't you have this for sale? The ad says that the engine and box was rebuilt 4000 K's ago?

What do you reckon caused the gearbox to let go so quickly after a rebuild?

You might need to update that ad eh or take it down for the moment?
