Purchased a new KAD Moke gear shift, nice looking beast!.

I installed it this morning and I can not get 2nd, 4th or reverse. 1st and 3rd only just select. - Not happy Jan.

Pulled the rod shift out and set it up on a bench. the travel from 1st to 2nd is 12 mm shorter with the KAD stick to the old stick. Does anybody know the amount of travel required to shift from 1st to 2nd at the gear box selection shaft?

I am thinking I must have a hell of a lot of slop in the selector forks and other places in the system, to make it such a problem.

The travel seems 6mm longer in each shift direction, not just 12 mm one way, so extending or shortening the rod for the change will not fix my problem.

does anybody have any ideas

Has anybody fitted a KAD set up before?

I will also contact the supplier to see what they say.

Bring it to Bris & we can try it on Mokesta. I'll check it out for about 10,000km & tell you if it's a good thing!

Mokesta has lots of slop in the mechanism too though.

After spending 3 hrs putting the thing in and pulling it out, measuring, shimming and trying it again I was close to throwing the thing all the way to Brissy.

Funny thing - I re fitted the locking pins and put in the old stick and I swear it has improved by 100% - it is a lot tighter and better shifting.

It must have go the hint it was going to the shed for a holiday!

After a lot of swearing and pulling out the rod change selector I have the problem beat.

I had to grind away the old gear stick ball seat, in the housing, elongating it to gain the required travel.

I installed the stick and found it was to close to my leg - so it got a slight bend and back in again.

All is good - nice and short shift.
