Post subject: | Electrical Problem---->Please help!! |
Does anyone have the eletrical system schematics available? My mini is in desperate need of attention and help! I have no indicators, tail lights, or dash lights. The charge light is dull after the car is running for a couple of minutes, but when i use the brake or try to use the indicators it goes as bright as it can. The alternator is charging and the earth points under the bonnet have been checked. Last question, where is the flasher can? Is it part of the instument cluster? Any ideas? ![]() |

Check the fuses! ![]() Dirty connections are common in minis and just wiggling the fuse around usually solves this problem... but clean up the terminals properly. Try that and come back if it doesnt work.... |

Done that. The weird thing is the car still runs with both fuses out. I have cleaned them out, and I only have the 2 fuse box. |

OK. Now unscrew the aluminum plate where the switches are, and the heater sliding thingoes. There should be an inline fuse. Take this out and inspect for blown fuse.. Tell me if that works... |

problem solved! Thanks Will for your help, you were right, fuse box still had a dirty contact. Took all of the terminals off and used my dremel to buff them all clean and away she went. Put two new fuses in of course to cover my rear from this happening again. Amazing what you learn about a car from always fixing it! lol. cheers everyone. ![]() |

BMC released their Mini range with dirty fusebox contacts. They did the same with production line dents, rust, and other annoying things. Glad it works again. |

Hmmm.........another of those "Mini things" that some of us know about and the rest of us find out about when our car goes wrong. Talking about that sort of thing, did you know that you can change the clutch without taking out your engine IF the retaining bolt located at about the 7 o'clock position on the cover plate is removed and chucked away. In other words, if your engine is out at the moment, get rid of that bolt. Sorry about hi-jacking the thread. Hooroo |

Is the indicator meant to make that 'tick tick' noise when you indicate? Mine doesn't Oh & my fuel gauge doesn't work, is it disconnected? |

The indicator makes a tick tick noise but it's usualy very quiet... If you turn your indicator on, open the bonnet and stick your head under there you should hear it a bit better |

the tick tick noise comes from a little silver coloured cylinder about the length of a thumb and the thickness of an inch if you trace the wires around, you should be able to find it in a normal car, not sure about your mini in my moke its under the bonnet, in my matic its under the steering column |
