Hi again, Need help from the guys who are familiar with Rovers. What do you think of this one just by looking at the pictures? And how much do you think it's worth? Also, this might be a stupid question...did Japan import their Rover Minis from UK and did they manufacture it themselves?

Hi Daniel, Need more info, please. Year, odo reading, etc. 
Looks good to me but i'm not the best authority, i just own a Rover. Missing the air filter intake. It's a black plastic tube that comes off the left side of the air filter and curves down in front of the block. Also no battery cover but that's not crucial. That spare isn't sitting in properly either... 
A couple of mods, i think (but i may be wrong and am happy to be corrected): Those wheel arches look very wide. Bullet mirrors. Rear wiper Jap spec? At a guess depending on odo and year, you could be looking up to ~$16k. Hope that helps. Gotta love those Mayfairs.

Always UK built and then exported to Japan. |

Daniel I am not good with Rover mini pricing but i can tell you its an early model one with a small bore motor. Does it have discs or drums. ??? Regardless - do a real good inpection of it mechanically because a good early model mini (oz roundie or clubbie) is a better buy than a clapped later model mini such as a Rover etc. The jap minis were imported into Japan. If it was imported to Japan new then it shouldn't have rust issues beyond what we normally see here. If it was a used car when it was exported from britain is may have quite significant rust. |

Should be 8.4 discs on the front. Drums on back. Unless it's pre '92 - dunno what came before then. |

To BohoMini: - It's a '88 Mayfair and mileage is about 76k... - I thought all Rovers have a disk brake at the front, anyway, this is to be clarified with the seller... To Mike_Byron: - Yes, it's a 998cc engine. - It was imported from Japan, but I don't know whether it was exported to Japan as a new or used car. I think it's going to be difficult to determine the history. |

By looking at that car i wouldn't pay more than $6,000 for it. The paint is Black and doesn't look to be in the best condition. The Engine bay isn't in top shape and only 998cc The car has recently been registered in NSW and it looks like someone has just decided to throw on a set or sportspack flares (not bothering to paint them) and some 13x6 Superlites and sell it. Those wheels are not wide enough for those flares either, they need to be 13x7 or the proper offset 13x6 Sportspack rims. Also that spare doesn't sit right because of the rover tank - it's bigger, i think doogie had a similar problem with penny's matic - a 12x5 wouldn't even fit so thats a bummer. Nothing Special. |

I knew something was wrong with all that! Well, there ya go. A beautiful, low mile original will cost you ~$16k. $6k is a big difference. |

All minis after '84 has discs. I would pay no more than 6.5-7k, and wouldn't expect it cheaper than 5.5k.

Black is car owners dream or their worst nightmare. Well looked after and highly polished all the time it looks great. But it will show every mark, blemish or ding and dirt. It simply draws your eye to those spots. If you buy a black car be very prepared for a high maintenance body. the same goes for any dark colour though but black is the pinnacle.. |

Some more info I need to mention, the seller told me about the rust on the bottom edge of the rear window on the driver side, which has already been fixed. Judging by the location of the rust, what do you think the possibility of other rust waiting to come up? Also, there's a paint touch-up job on the water jets area and not a good job at that. Looks like an orange peel... I'm quite curious as to why he needed to touch up that particular area... 
Based on the photos alone, do you think it worths an inspection? See, the car is in Sydney and I'm located in Melbourne. I want to be quite sure before I decided to fly there and take a further inspection. Thanks again, Daniel |

Personally i wouldn't fly up for it - SA is closer to you and there would be a shedload of rovers at brickworx for you to look at. Tell us more about what you want. How much do you want to spend? Power? Reliability? How handy are you with a spanner? will you do any work? or will you be paying someone? I am sure there are some nice Oz mini's available in Melbourne. |
