The rear drivers side wheel looks like it has toe in (front of wheel bend in towards the centre), is this common and how do i fix it??? Cheers |

not common, but not unheard of.... fixed by getting a wheel alignment place to measure it, and putting shims behind the radius arm's outer mount.... see this thread http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12879&highlight=crab |

A small amount of toe-in at the rear is normal on a Mini (and any short-wheelbase car for that matter) as it counters oversteer. Usually it's not enough to be visible, so if you can see it it's probably not normal. |

So how do i measure the toe in, from the front it looks like quite a bit on the right rear. Cheers |

Take it to a wheel alignment place. The toe in at the back should be 1/8th inch on a mini, this will be hard to do at home but not impossible. By the way, both rear wheels should look like they are toeing in because of the way the body wedges inwards at the rear. It could very well be that your rear passenger side wheel is toed out like mine was... Wheel aligner that can do 10 inch wheels will be able to tell all |

What he said ^ Never try to gauge toe on either the front or rear by sight...you WILL be wrong. |

If you have a bit of time and talent you could do a string alignment. You need a long bit of string, a tape measure, 4 car stands and a flat bit of ground. (if you don't have stands you can use chairs or eskys or anything that can hold a bit of string at the right height) Park the car on the flat bit of ground. Stick a car stand out from each corner of the car. Tie the string between the stands so that you have a string running at hub level past each wheel. The string must be tight. (not sagging) Work out a centre point at the front of the car. Set the strings the same distance away from the centre point at the front. You want the string about 100mm from the outside of the tyre. But the strings must be the same distance away from the centre point. Now you need to find the centre point at the rear and set the strings the same distance away from the centre. Check the width of the strings at the rear is the same the same as the front. Now that the car is parked between a parallel pair of strings you can use the tape measure to check the toe settings with the tame measure. Measure from the string to the side wall of the tyre close to the tread. Do this front and rear of each tyre and you can work out the toe in or out. It sounds hard but it is pretty easy when you get the hang of it. |

Yeah that's a good method above but beware, mine was toed out on the passenger side, toed in on the drivers side, total 1/8th toe in so the car was crabbing to the left (ie. when the car drives straight but is actually facing right like this / / ) |

... and after finding how MUCH toe-out, it took surgery to the outer bracket to fix it properly. As mine did too, years ago. Amazing just how many crabby Minis there are out there... it sure doesn't help handling.

Hee he...a local Cooper S was like this / \....the camber kit had come loose or somesuch...improved the handling no end once fixed

Mine and Chong's were both tracking like this at rear- \ \ with no adjustable kits on. Patients both OK now after Dr's surgery..
