Hi, i need some more oil for my SU carburetor and i dont know what to use. I went to auto pro and they say that air tool oil is ok... or what other oil should i use?

You can buy genuine SU oil, (mini or carb specialists)

You can use ATF

You can use any monograde oil. 10 to 20W is best. People may say that engine oil is OK, but it really isn't in 99% of cases.

Sewing machine oil , or 3 in 1 oil are also used by some.

I use a mtorcycle fork oil monograde 10W.

Seems to do a very nice job.

Yes it does say 20W 50 in all workshop manual I got, but that's silly. I followed it first off and it reduces acceleration to near nothing piston won't lift up. Not even worth trying IMO.

ATF (auto trans fluid) is the most commonly used dashpot and is a good midrange for winter and summer temperatures, for a normal car I'd use it and I do, but for me it's a little thin, I'm going to change to thicker stuff or thicken the ATF a bit (by mixing thicker oil with it) as my piston lifts up a bit too quickly (my car is supercharged hence this is an issue). From what I've read a bit too thick is less noticeble to to thin.

I also you Auto Transmition Oil...but would like to try a little Thinner...any idea's to thin it a little :idea:

Air is even thinner. 8)

That is what was recomended for the 175CD Strombergs on the XU1. :? (I used atf in mine)

Barney's twin HS4s run air in summer and ATF in winter. 8)

A mate that was racing an XU1 thought that air was too thick so he tried it with the dampers removed and just blank caps.

Didn't work! :lol: He went back to running dampers and air. :wink:
