I just wanted some confirmation if this is correct. 997 cooper had an 850 style boot flap? All coopers had 100m speedos? (could a 120m speedo be an option at all? dealer etc.) No coopers had RH tank? (could this have been a dealer option at all?) What did the vent just behind the grill do? like a mesh covered bracket. was this only cooper fitted? Is the pudding stick hole meant to have a welded plate over it, or should it have a rivited cover on it? any other features. heater 7"disks |

(could this have been a dealer option at all?) Not in Oz. What did the vent just behind the grill do? like a mesh covered bracket. was this only cooper fitted? It's heater intake. any other features. heater 7"disks |

I have a lot of info on 997's, the pointers you have been given are mainly correct, if you are looking at a car to buy, I can help. It sounds as though there are some mods to this car, as the doc has suggested, are you sure it's not a 1071? Although these did not have R/H tanks as standard either. If you want to PM me the numbers, I can compare to the 40 odd cars I have on the 997 register..... Happy to help! ![]() Graham |

I thought Cooper's may have had a 110 speedo? My brother had a cooper and my recollection was that it was different to others we had at the time (850's, Deluxes, and a Cooper S). and the 850's and some others had a 90mph. Did deluxes have 90 or 100mph? - I can't remember. KB |

850 and Mini Deluxe = 90MPH Cooper = 100MPH Mini K = 90MPH Cooper S 1275 = 130MPH (numbered to 120 then dots) Mokes 90MPH or 140KMH. |

I don't think either the tank or the speedo could possibly have been anything to do with the dealer either as the cars were not available concurrently either. common enough however for those owning a Cooper and wanting Cooper S cues to fit the differing parts. Many Coopers were also converted to Group N or appendix J, so maybe your car has seen the focus of these efforts at some stage. |

![]() Re the round heater air hose connector with the wire mesh. These were spot welded in position on 850s as well as 997 and 998 Cooper cars. My 63 850 had it fitted but my 66 Cooper 'S' didn't. I added an external air duct to the Cooper 'S' using the 997/998 air ducting, mesh intake fitting, clamps and rubber grommet to seal the air duct where it goes through the bulkhead. It was a tight fit on the 'S'. Brake booster etc in the way. UK built 'S' cars had the air duct but used a reducing adaptor to fit it around the brake booster etc. Does anybody know if the genuine air duct and large rubber grommet that seals the air duct at the bulkhead is still available? I've checked with many Mini suppliers and Auto Rubber suppliers etc without success. I would like to fit the air ducting to my 68 MK1 'S'. RonR |
