After being away for 2 weeks, a lot of the BP ultimate evaporated on the moke. There wasn't much there to begin with before I left, but more than enough to get me further than the 2 kms I managed to travel today.

The ticking sound that started about a kilometre had me worried it was a bearing, closer inspection revealed it was the petrol pump, and that I had just missed pulling into the nearby petrol station. I was lucky to be able to pull over safely and then go for a short stroll.... :)

No excuse for running out in a Moke. Take off the big cap and peer in. If you can see steel, you need to fill.

I've bought two jerry cans, during fuel outages.

One time I held the Mini on starter in 1st gear (not enough torque in 2nd) for a hundred M or so to get to the servo; it was raining outside.

I think you need to install the cork gasket between the cap and the neck - stops the evaporation. I have a plastic 5 litre jerry for that very purpose

Agreed, but I was in a rush to get to supercheap to buy a battery before they closed. I failed. :)

I like the cork gasket idea, I will take a closer look at the cap and possibly head down to bunnings.

On the last test run in the Countryman before it passed rego,
started it up, but could still hear the "tick" of the electric fuel pump.
I look at #1 son, he looks back at me & says "must be nearly empty"
(picks these things up quickly)

Go for a run around the block anyway.
Just over half way, engine cuts out so I slip into neutral & coast into our street, then the boy hops out while we're still moving & pushes us until we're back in the driveway. And of course, all three jerry cans are empty :x

My family owns 6.

4 metal, my plastic all 25 litres each.

2 for diesal msotly for the tractor but can be used in either 4WD but general not needed as they have 100L fuel tanks anyway and are very economical.

And 4 for the Mini's and the Merc. Mostly for the Mini's haha.

Now we're doing 2 with 95, and 2 with 98, eg 2 for my car, and 2 for any other car or mine plus octane booster.
