I got a new wiring loom for my mini and it has a tacho loop on it, so i disconnected the join near the label (bullet connections thru a joiner) and wired my tacho (or multimeter with tacho function) in between, now when i start the car as soon as it starts it stalls, then when i connect the loop back together it starts fine. The old Smiths tacho worked be running the wire from the points to the coil via the tacho where it picked up the pulse from the wire. So the current runs all the way from the dizzy to the dash and back to the coil. It is a good place to fit a cut off switch.

It would be a perfect place for that. So basically i need to run new wires for my tacho, i have a new VDO Hertiage Gold tacho. Cheers |

You can still use the same loom with the ignition lead connected through, just have to get a pulse lead from the coil back to the tacho. Below is how the earlier impulse tachos were wired in the clubmans.
