Where is the local place people in Melbourne go to get mini repair panels from? And what's the go with the pressings? Can you get pressings that suit the Australian minis or are they all late rover types? Anyone got an entire roof that I may trundle off with? |

Mick I have a restoring mini book - maybe Haynes, dunno because outr house surplus contents are in a container in town, while minister for walls ceiling and state matters does colour changes. Anyway, that book simply suggests the best repair route is to go to the wreckers and get a roof with two inches of A, B and C pillers and cut and shut from there. Big back yard job but fairly small panel beaters job. Just an option. |

Yeah, I will probably be going down that route, the back gutter resembles a row of mail box slots. it seems that it was put to bed in 1988 with some of the problems allready showing. There are some light repairs here and there with some silicone stuffed in small holes. In other respects it's a marvel in that it hasn't been touched since it left the factory in many places. |

The roof is a major structual piece. Before you start cutting the old one off, take heaps of accurate measurements of the body so that if it springs out to a different shape you know where you have to pull it back into shape before welding the new one on. Sit the car up on blocks - under the subframes AND under the floor pan before you cut also. Some people have also been known to tack weld a support across the door openings before cutting. |
