So, I in the first week of owning my new 65 Deluxe, some b@stard put something in the fuel tank. The question is what.

When I drained the fuel, it was yellowish. No separation..i.e. not water, or coke or anything...but it "seemed" to be fully dissolved and yellow.

Ideas?

I will post a picture of normal and this fuel later today to try and explain better.

The car still isnt healthy, despite draining the fuel, adding in-line fuel filter and cleaning the carby float chamber. Jets are probably the culprit.

Thoughts on how to go about it? I just got a Gregories mini-manual off ebay..hopefully that is enough guidance for a non-mechanic like me

unleaded?

I've compared unleaded, vs unleaded with lead addative vs premium unleaded

nothing is yellow, they are all blueish redish.

I've always wondered about this... surely the petrol or even petrol vapour would burn your dick if you got too close... and if you weren't real close you'd risk back splash on yourself if you missed the hole.

What did it do to the tank anyway, did it clog the filter or something else? I heard some fuel station got caught watering fuel down last week in sunny Brisvegas.

EDIT: just read your thread in gallery, i didn't even know you were from Brisbane.....I just guessed right for some reason, I'm off to put some lotto number in then.

They could of just wacked some 2 stroke mower petrol they had laying around. The oil takes the purple look away from it?

Have you run the car yet No drain the tank by undoing the rubber hose underneath the boot and throw the stuff away (responsibly)....try and run the fuel pump (disconnected at the carby float bowl) into a coke bottle or similar with the ignition leads removed so the car won't start.

Then fill with new stuff.

Unfortunately, I found out the hard way...shocking misfires and spluturing all the way home. Got it home though...just.

I drained the tank, put a filter in line, empty and cleaned the carby float bowl, drained the line and put new fuel. After that, it went well after a bit of running. Enough to do 10 laps around the block...but then, the next morning it started again (something settled?).

Probably take it to a mechanic now..outta ideas

Had that thought too...but I went to the servo and asked about yellow fuel..even ethanol based - they said it's still that blueish/redish colour.

Two things....

the new fuel may have found a pocket of the old stuff and is tainted again...but unlikely.

The crap running has probably burn't your points ...have a look there and pull the plugs as well.

Old stuff: possible...which is why I only put 5L back in (in case I need to drain again. Maybe i'll do that tomorrow morning!

Points/Plugs: I pulled the plugs which look "ok"..gave them a cleanup and made no difference. Not really sure what I am looking for at the points end of things.

What colour is diesel?

I run Mobil 8000 (98 octane) it is a yellowish colour.
