Nice car, nice price if it's the real deal.

Like all old fellas owned a racing mini, it's a pretty common claim that it's an ex-police car as well. Would need to prove it somehow, but he's not asking a premium anyway if it's a real claim.

I have a feeling Steve E posted a pic of this one on his last weekend away in Queenie before he sold her so he may know a little more about it . Ben , unless it has it's full history as a police car (some proof like the drivers handbook stating police force etc) it may be hard to verify that it was a Police mini . If it can be verified that it's a genuine Mk2 S and a genuine Police mini then it is a rare mini and it looks a good price . If you're interested get someone who really knows mini's to check it and it's history over with you to make sure it's legit .

Cool thx guys. I actually want one, but it's too far. So it's for someone who is interested in an ex-cop mini to have a look.

I already had another one in mind which I will probably get soon, which I am expecting it to happen before the mid/end of June; only if the buyer hasn't sold it yet. It's an 69 'ORIGINAL' MK2 CooperS.

Good news is that I have my gf's garage now (at the expense of something) so I can start looking. yah..

The bad news is that I have to be with her for as long as I have to keep my mini in her garage. oh  Looks like I will have to be with her this whole life then!

I already did some research and reading this time so I am much more prepared. But I am still a beginner so I will need someone to look at it for me this time, maybe a club member MCC or ausmini person? I will also ask Mini Classic to look at it for me. So anyoen would wanna offer help? Or you think Mini Classic could handle it? All I need to confirm is that it's totally original and mechnically good and no rust, etc. The car is located very close to the city (Sydney)

There is a golf ball size dent near the guard, the owner told me it's fixable for about 200 bucks from the paintless dent remover shops.

I have my doubts about the year though, 1971. :? Wouldn't by then it have the clubman doors and tail ights (maybe not tail light but definitely doors, like the Late K's.) In 71 did they have moth and year number stamped?

I'm not debating that's it's not an 'S' though.

Yes 1971 Cooper S had the Clubby doors, but like the K, still had the roundnose rear lights (2 screw type).
Yes from December 1969 they all had a compliance plate with the month and year. Mine is 3/70.

The ad says it is a '70 and a '71. If one of these years is right it is most likely a '70 by the lack of lift up door handles.

Cheers
Steve

Early 1971 could have had early door handle, but it would have to have been very early 1971 (Jan).

Actually police Cooper S are not as rare as I first thought. Full details in next mag - coming in 4 weeks.

If you want a really, really rare Mini - ex-NSW Police Clubman GT. Again, full details next mag.

Cheers,
Watto.

Good call on the engine number.

Mk 2 should be 9FXEY.

9FSAY is Mk1, but first Cooper S had 9FSAY 36207 - though they were not put into cars in numbered order.

I think anyone seriously interested would want to check this car out thoroughly.

Cheers,
Watto.

I had a look at this car a few weeks ago, it's at "Surfair Holden" Orient St
As far as I can tell it's the real deal, Police pack carbs etc, holes for radio, sunvisor, &

I have a 71 cooper s. They also have the park brake light on dash, burst proof door handles, 1.5" twin S.Us, extractors, and sports exhaust. It looks a little earlier of a model. Good luck with your purchase.
