Post subject:  Reversing lights??
I just had the Moke give a roadworthy and it didn't have a reverse light fitted to it, didn't even have a reverse switch at all but the mechanic insisted it needed one fitted before he passed it..

Did the 1981 Moke ever have reversing lights fitted as standard??

No they didn't and it wasn't an option either as you can see from this bit of a 1981 moke specification brochure from Leyland .

If it didnt come out with is standard, then it dosnt need it. Tell em to jam it. It dosnt need ASAP cause it will pass without it.

yup Graham in Aus is right, that spec sheet definatly says it's got reverse lamps. which means yup, it had em and yup it needs em. 1981 for sure would have ADR's saying reverse lights are needed. It still amazes me that mokes were build for so long with ADR's making it tougher to pass em!

Where abouts Graham , I only skimmed it myself without really reading it but I saw "twin combination lamps incorporating stop/tail lights" .

Smokie , I'll reduce the size (currently 4 meg each high res ...) of the front and rear of the brochure and email it to you so you can print and show the guy doing the inspection . All I ask is you don't print extra's and sell them .

Bugger , I see it now , apologies Graham , I only skim read it looking in the "electrical" bit . Well , I won't bother sending it to you Smokie as it won't help you .... It's on the 1980 one too so you can't argue that it came in mid way either ...

Ahhh, nothing like a smug oldie graham in aus... Trouble is it we don't get that chance very often.. Now confusion, that is a different thing all together.... :shock:

Well my Moke didn't even have a place for the switch to one was made up to operate via the gearshift..

I think that the switch should be on the rodchange unit, under the floor.
