This is a tricky one. My idling seems to have a mind of it's own. Sometimes when I start it when it's cold it idles way too low, just barely stays alive unless I put my foot down a bit. It will do this for a few days then it will return to normal for a day or two. Then it gets energetic and idles at about 2-3 grand and wont go down. Ive pulled everything apart, the air filter element, all the wiring, fuses, checked the sensors for any signs of wear. Ive adjusted the idle speed twice and that helped for a while. I was thinking mabye one of the tempreture sensors is gone, or going, that would explain the lack of fast idle on cold starting but not the excessive idling. Anyway Im out of ideas. If any of you can help it would be much appreciated. |

Could be many things.... Carby or fuel injected? Broken auto-choke (EFI)? Too much fuel pressure, flooding with fuel? HIF Su's choke o-ring is known to die and let tons of fuel through, could be giving the high idle. Incorrect badging, eg a Rover not a Morris? (okay just a joke on that one  ) I'd have to agree with the above see Steve.

Hay there i take it that you car is fuel injected if so check the vacuum hose that pushes into the ecu and goes to the intake manifold. That hose is connect to the map sensor which is built into th ecu.Make sure that hose has no holes in it or cuts in it this is a common fault |

I took everything apart today, cleaned the the manifold and linkages (its an efi setup btw) with throttle body cleaner, I checked the load sensor and hoses, all ok. and tightened up all the maniflod nuts. Put it back together and it runs fine now, and looks really clean! I hope I fixed it, whatever I did, but only time will tell. I think it was just a bit of air being sucked in the manifold somewhere, thanks for all your help! |
