Post subject:  Thoughts about the Pertronix Rev limiter

Anyone had experience with the Pertronix Rev Limiter when coupled with the Ignitor ignition system?

I'm strongly thinking about it for my new engine.

Also, would it be worth going the Ignitor II system over the standard Ingitor?

Thanks.

I think Doc knows about this. But I heard bad stuff about the original ignitor, like it blowing up when leaving the igntion on without the motor running for a short time.

willy , how much is your engine going to cost and how much is the rev limiter ? What are the chances of you driving like a lout , missing a gear , having a driveline failure or anything and redlining it ? pretty cheap insurance reallyif there is any chance of accidentally over-revving it :D

Not sure about the pertronix system as i haven't used it before...

But as to rev limiters in general:

I put one in with my ignition system as insurance, never thinking I'd hit it, unless there was a problem...
It has paid itself off already, as my motor (and I assume your new one) can pull into its higher rev range no problem. This coupled with a tacho that couldn't keep up, has saved me (and the dyno operator!) over revving and damaging the motor a few times!

Well missing a gear - maybe.
Driveline failure - hope not.
Redlining due to over-enthusiasm - possibility.

Big journal cranks do not like to be revved a lot, so i think it will be cheap insurance.

Anyone on here using the Pertronix Ignitor II setup?

Yes the original Ignitor had a problem if you left ignition on for more that a minute not running...
This was fixed on Ignitor II.

However I ran an original one for years with no problems. My car has an accessories pos on the switch though!
No problem now, Powered by Pulsar......... 8)

Rev limiter is a good idea. I've already hit past 8K a few times, but at least my crank is not a big J softie!

i was running an ignitor II, used the original before and thought the newer will be better.
but it wasn't, i couldn't use my ignition wires as the ignitor II dislike low ohm wires (there was a small paper in the box telling this and i found out this is true). i couldn't find any use of the "dwell controll". maybe it should be run with the flamethrower II coil to get the best.
i sold it and still use the original
