Can someone tell me if I have the hoses for my heater tap set the right way.. I cannot get hot air out of the heater and the tap I have fitted is a new one..

I have the hot water from the heated manifold going into the heater via the upright pipe and exiting from the side back to the radiator.. (See pic below of old tap)..

If you have plumbed what you said then it's no wonder it's not getting hot

Those heater taps are more trouble that they are worth. They always gum up and are at best unreliable.

The best bet is to throw away that tap and plumb new heater hoses directly into the heater core. One directly from the head and the other directly to the bottom radiator heater hose return. It doesn't matter which way the water runs in the heater core.

Then get off ebay a heater tap (like off a Cooper S) that bolts onto where the hot water hole in on the head. You now have two options, you can lift the bonnet and adjust the heater tap with your hand or you can run a choke cable to it to the tap and operate it from inside the car. Either way works and its a LOT less trouble that the clubbie heater tap.

But, but it's a new tap that I have Mike and it will hurt my Scottish soul (if I had one) just to throw it away...

Its a leyland Clubman Cooper S tap isn't it - sell it for a profit on Ebay or swap it for a dram of glenfidditch. That will ease the soul and then you can justify it.

Two years from now with that tap you have you will be repeating this whole operation because the tap wont turn off or on and the heater wont run hot.

With a name like Byron I thought you would have felt my pain Mike....

And I own a Mini so how can I afford a bottle of Glenfidditch because no-one around my area will shout me a dram of the stuff. Looks like I will just have to hit the cheap wine then...

Could be the core itself. From the look of the colour in the line in and out spots there is a fair bit of rust and it could be blocked, therefore no heat coming out. Think you got the pipes right though. Will check when light outside if no one answers b4 that.

That was the old tap mikkis37 and the heater was pulled apart and the core flushed out and new hoses fitted... Even cleaned the fan blades..

Arrows are spot on! If it isn't getting hot it is prob an air block somewhere or the tap not turned to the right position! Needs to be up for it to then get hot. Mine only takes bout 5 mins to get warm enough to feel it.
