I've got a 65 Deluxe with a 1100 thats been all machined with a really lumpy cam and i'm after a new carby, I dont want twin carbys so im set on a HIF44. Would it be suitable and is it worth buying a brand new or just buy a second hand one and recondition it. |

Morris "Daily Drive of the wifes" runs a HIFF44 and it stacks up to a Dellorto or a Webber. Our's is a second hand which did not have a refurbe but it needs one now can't say how long it has been since orginal. Get a good manifold and get it dyno'd for the Perfect needle ![]() Sue's willbe on show tomorrow so I'll take some pic's if ya lke |

I have an Hif44 (sort of, it's an HIF6 modified to take HIF44 parts anmd works like an HIF44). I think it's great, appart from the fact that the idle mixture is righ above the exhaust on my car (SC12 kit) and normal SU springs don't fit, they are great, ines been converted to solid needle too, not springed needle. |

HIF44's work fine on small bores - again, like everyone else said, you need it properly needles to give proper results. Their achilles heel is the "O" ring that sit on the choke tap. The choke is not like an early model choke, its a twist and turn affair like on a motor bike and the problem is that the "O" ring does not like modern fuel. It cracks and splits especially if the carby dries for some time. The end result is that you get unmetered fuel being delivered to the engine. A HIF kit is relatively inexpensive and readily obtainable for Midel in Sydney. For what its worth, my HIF came from Ebay Uk, its mounted on an MG metro inlet manifold and it works fine with the needle it came with. Its a 1310 engine but never the less it works fine. It was rekitted. |
