i wasnt happy when i looked up the reference chart and found nothing mini like no bmc blmc morris leyland moke mini clubman cooper deluxe not even a bmw mini (which is not related at all but not the point) i did find an MG sprite which used a bosch s46 thought maybe this would be good because of the age similarity

What you want is an Exide E550H i think it's also rebadged as champion too at repco and other places..Top battery, mine has run flat a few times and is still going strong, it's gone from my clubby into the moke and it just goes and goes and goes ;)

I think BIG W also have them :)

Searched for E550H and found this:

Should retail for around $120-$130, Big W has em on the shelf (they are used in falcons etc)

2 year warranty, Mine lasted for 5 years of bad abuse, 2 cars, being repeatedly drained to dead flat trying to start the mini (took a Loooooooong time to drain!) overcharged and generally neglected. finally died over this winter when I left it in the mini (flat) for 10 months untouched.

Get one of them!

Or go for an Optima ($250 i think, 800CCA, sealed unit 8) )"

Oh no they're not, especially when you go for a gel type battery (Optima). The benefit of these is no acid / fumes to eat into your battery box. For people that want the best, these are the ones to get. 8)

That said, I fitted a maintenance free unit with a 3 year warranty when my Mini battery needed to be replaced recently.

Go for the largest CCA battery you can afford that will fit in the battery box.

I went for a Deloite it's the best battery I have ever bought, It's fitted as OE to BMW- MINI
and I can leave my 68 Cooper S parked for 1month - 2 months and fires up first go, It's the best battery plus it has a charge indicator on it so you can tell if the battery is full or flat or mid way , so if your car doesn;t start you know if it's the batt straight away
