Post subject:  Headlight Question

Hi,

One of my headlights is a little dimmer than the other one. I replaced the sealed beam and it's exactly the same.

This tells me that there's a wiring problem somewhere.

It's not really a problem......is it just because it's a mini????

Any thoughts on how to fix it????

put a relay in?

Cos it's one side and not the other, it will be a localised issue.

there will be a bad join here somewhere, and if it is dropping volts accross this joint like it is, it is now a resistor and will be generating heat. Best look at it soonish.
I will assume you have not fitted a relay to the headlights. If you have, then check the connections here as well. If there are seperate contacts on this relay for left and right, swap them to see if the problem follows to the other light.

You can isolate it to the problem area pretty quickly.
1. If it is dimmer on High and Low beam, then it is probably the black ground wire at issue. (Black)
2. Dimmer on High beam, then it is the high beam wire (Blue/White)
3. Dimmer on Low, the low beam wire (Blue/red)

Start with the easy stuff first, go to the front of the car and feel around the loom for the connectors to the left and right head lights under the bonnet catch panel, it will be somewhere near the center. There will be 4 there for high, low, parkers and black ground.

Based on what you found above, make sure the connections here are tinght and clean, give them a scrape with sandpaper if you need to.

If these are fine, then dissassemble the headlamp from the front so that the bulb drops into your hand. Clean the contacts in the plug at the back and refit. This should solve the problem.

Cheers Mick,

It's been like it for several years - ever since I got Ribena - but it's one of those things that annoy..........I'll check out the connections etc and there is no relay installed by me.......perhaps I should

Don't fit a relay until you find the problem. There is no point in feeding more power into a dodgy connection. Find and fix the dodgy connection and then add power. :D
