So should people in Sydney stop posting pictures of their cars in Members Gallery? I know that I am tempted to run through and delete all the pictures of my cars! One of mine would quite posibly be a theft target.

It is just like carsales.com atm. or am i being paranoid here?

Without getting people into a panic just think about what you're showing in your pics that you post . If it shows a concrete driveway with a small generic bush in the background then you're generally fine . If it show's a fancy stencilcrete or paved driveway with a distinctive house behind it and a letterbox with a street number than you may be giving too much information to the wrong people . Just be careful what pictures you post that may gie away your location .

Probably...5 stolen cars out of thousands on this board in a country where car theft is a multi million dollar business....maybe obscure number plates...but really...thieves are opportunists...are you never ever going to drive the car out of your garage again...people watch and take note...or follow you home..its that easy....

Lets place all our cars in other states and locations. Like Bert's photos on Family Feud.

Then post the photos on UK forums - can you imagine how cool everyone over there would think you are! :P
Good thing Neighbours is in Victoria. Harold wouldn't like having his Clubbie taken.
Just don't put the photos on Home and Away backdrops. I can imagine Alf - "Flamin' Galahs flogged me Cooper!" :P

I'm not meaning to make fun of the problem/subject, it's a very good idea. I like it a lot. It's just a solution that has a humourous side.
Points to clarify - I do not watch either program. This is very important to note. I do not live in Sydney. I hope that whoever is organizing this thing (because, as everyone says, there have been too many lately - weren't there two in three days a month or two ago?!) gets what they deserve. :x I don't care where from - police or someone else on the wrong side of the law. And finally, I don't have anything worth stealing - common model, not original, etc... Don't bother coming to my place! I'm at 1060 West Addison, Chicago. With Elwood Blues. :P

YEAH, THIS KIND OF MISSUSE OF THESE PUBLIC FORUMS REALLY GETS UP MY NOSE. ARSECLOWNS COME IN, LOOK AROUND AND STUFF EVERYTHING UP FOR THOSE THAT REALLY WANT TO BE HERE.

I've seen this kind of thing happen on other forums as well, on a jeep forum last year one member who was posting pics showing his rego and info of his mods, was dobbed into Mainroads by another member of the forum. The Mainroads guy actually showed up at the guys house, in MT ISA, with printouts taken directly from the jeep forum website.

There was a big backlash, and heaps of people removed pics and info about their mods and vehicles. And that was a real shame as thats where you what to see that info, get ideas, share stories, find out better ways to deal with problems and solving them. All getting back to normal now . but, it did make everybody think that bit harder about what info they gave away.

All I can say is, be careful about your pics, block out number plates, never say exacty where you live, don't stop posting, keep on posting info, but again , be selective in what you say, PM only folks you trust with real personal info. I've only been here a very short time myself , but, the info I've gotten already just shows the value of this forum to its members.

Whilst I will do everything to prevent theft. If somebody wants to go to all the effort of flogging either of my cars - they can have em - that what insurance is for.

If they steal the Jag - they will have to pay the fuel bills :P and if they want the Moke they obviously have no idea how bad the welding is.

Its more important that we dont put oursleves in a position of harm. The cars can be replaced.

I dont believe that changing anything we do on this forum will make any difference because if they want them badly enough they will get them anyway.

Maybe we should start putting the word out that VW parts are getting hard to find

Well if someone wants to steal my car - yes I would be pissed - but I ain't going to do anything silly to stop them. - besides prevention.
I also wont be encouraging them by posting a picture and an address.

If their just trying to take it for a spin the idiot twit will probably crash it and leave it, or kill himself
I have salvage rights, so hopefully insurance and everything works out okay.

If there taking it appart and selling for parts then so be it.
But I am not leaving car in the shed and never driving it - I enjoy it too much.

Why don't you just delete backgrounds out of your pics :P

I can insure your car's safety for 50c per pic :?

So what is an Arseclown?

I remember it in the movie Bad Santa, it evokes an interesting image in my mind however...
