While pulling apart the rear suspension of my 850 I noticed the date 1/62 stamped on the damper. I knew wiper motors had date stamps on them and it started me wondering what other mini parts from that era had date stamps?

Other things that I know that have date stamps are the headlight dipper switch on the floor and the boot lock - I think there is one other but I can't think of it right now.

Becareful though because at some point they ended up printing the week of the year and then the year, they started printing the month and the year first.

Wiper Motor
Starter
Generator
Distributor
Voltage Regulator
Solenoid (not 850)
Dip switch
Ignition switch
Wiper switch
Headlight switch
Shocks (thanks for reminding me Sparkyboy! )
Boot Lock
Paint Colour (some colours were only used for one year)

Does the SU fuel pump have a date? (I may have to look through my collection!)

The best way is looking at the cars numbers and posting on here to see if anyone has a car near yours and they have the date in the handbook.
Low chassis numbers mean an early car. A Deluxe with a number lower than 2000 will be a 65 for sure! Some models sold about 1000 cars per month, some sold less. It can be worked out.

Might have found another one. Inside the brake drum is 22 8 62 in the casting. Hard to believe they would modify the casting every day, so probably just a coincidence that it is in the date range of the other bits.

They certainly built minis to last. Some of the original parts still have a lot of wear left in them. Enough meat left on the drums so that a light skim and they will be as good as new.

The dates on my Moke range from 1965 to 1979 on a 1971 car. So it can be a bit misleading

Those two years average out at 1972.
Looks close enough to me

Disc brake swivel hubs have date cast into them.

Rovers have date stamped into the firewall panel just below the accel pedal, just up from the floor seam. Usually covered in body sealer.
