Post subject:  Back from town

I have just come back from a counter lunch in town. In the commodore.
Gulgong is a 50 km town and its a causual town anyway with road rules etc. Ambling down the long main street, I looked in the rear vision mirror and there was a red pulsar stuck right up my bum in probably 2nd gear with its engine doing what sounded like 22,000 rpm.

I pulled across to give them room to get passed and quess what colour the P plate was ??????.

Sigh !!!

What you needed is what I had on my last car. A toggle mounted reversing light. You should see them hit the anchors when it fires up. Turning you lights on can have a similar effect

Change down a gear without braking and knock off 1/4 of your speed.

Works a treat.

Although last time I did it I had the P plater overtake me on the left and then pull back in and hit my car and drive off.

Yes, I am a P plater. Do I tailgait ? Yes, when I am going home from work and people decide to do anywhere from 40 to 60 km/h in the 7km section of 90Kmh. Any other time I am happy to sit back and enjoy the scenery.

What annoys me is when you cockies prop and stop in the main street to chat with your mates about drought, rain, sheep dip or whatever regardless of the traffic behind you :D

And, i've just noticed you beat me to 1275cc on the user id status as well

I never do that in the mini. Anyway we dont use sheep dip these days - you just backline them with a wand of zapp. !!!

Most sheep dips were arsenic based and declared too dangerous.

My whole issue was silly red P platers look screaming around in old cars that are nearly heamorrhaging because of the needless high revs and the need to pass me so they can turn left screechingly 50 metres further on.

Always with four in the car, the windows all wound down (regardless of the weather), elbows out the windows and the radio turned up so loud that the tyres have distorted as well as the sound from the speakers.

Hmmmm. I know that works but I am not going to precipitate an accident in my home town and have some penniless kid bury his what ever into the rear of our daily driver.

There are no winners and plenty of damage.

Too bad you guys miss out on the Canberra Public Service Grand Prix each day.
Makes the Nascar drivers look like amateurs.
We even have advisory signs "Don't Tailgate".
Ignored, unenforced & as about as useful as a screen door in a submarine

i used to have a bypass switch for the reversing lights and the handbrake switch
and that was quite effective at stopping from tailgating me

There are all sorts of restrictions applied to the P plates in terms of Alcohol, speeds, types of cars you can drive and i am unsure how the recent politics washed up. That was a political solution to end the cycle of p platers killing them selves in road accidents by stopping them driving after 11pm and limiting the number of passengers they can carry.

Although, after today's little episode I am even more convinced that P platers should be limited to one passenger if the passenger is under 40 years of age.

Gulgong is such a small town, you can fully circle the CBD in less that 500 metres driving, the temperature after dark is below zero and nobody is out walking on the footpath. Then looking out the restuarant window you see the same red p plated car going around and around the CBD with four males in it. All either wearing caps on backwards or beanies pulled down to their shoulders. The car windows wound down and the elbows on the windows sills. The stereo ?? guess what its boom boom boom.

Long live the newcastle song !!!!!
