before i start: im fairly sure this is in the wrong section, however it is sortof mini chat, so mods, if you move it i promise i wont bitch about it :D

i was at work a few weeks ago and this bloke comes in and we had a conversation that went something like this;

him: "is that your mini out there?"
me: "yeah" thinking he was going to offer me something for it, dont know why...)
him: "want a bonnet for it? $20"
me: "sure, why not!"

so im thinking, right he's coming in tomorrow with an old shitty rusty bonnet that he just wants to get rid of and wants to make a small amount of cash instead of just chucking it.

he comes in the next day, with a bonnet that has;
1. no dents.
2. puck-all rust
3. has heavily oxidised paint but a cut and polich would bring it up a treat, and
4. permanent marker o there someone has wanted to paint some flame detail.

so i've scored this decent bonnet, pics to come as i've just ahd the net connected at home but theres still soem bugs to sort. and i'm thinking, i dont want to put this on my car, so i'll put a painting on it, and hang it on the wall!

so, i'm putting a call out, if anyone wants their mini on this painting either pm/email me a pic and i'l get it done! my uncle is airbrushing it so i know it will look great when it's done! i'm going to give him all my TME's and mini worlds for some inspiration, but i hope to feature lots of ausmini minis! and of course italin job, and some racing minis....

my other thoght is, its still a good bonnet so if any one wants to swap their shitty old one for a decent one i would have no worries about that. no meney would change hands, just bonnets. plus, i dont know how a bonnet would go on the wall, weight wise?

lets see some pics!

Mounting isnt a problem. Just make sure you use big hooks, and they go into studs (I think thats what they're called.... you know the framing of the walls and house? you can find them by knocking on the wall till you find a bit that doesnt sound empty...)

In saying that, if you put it up, and it rips the plaster off the walls I take no responsibility :lol:

Great find.

as far as i know its not stolen, it looks like its been sitting under this guys house for about 100 years. even though mini's arent 50 yet... :P

in regards to detail, well its a clubby bonnet so lots of room to work with. i was thinking a big one in the middle, with a collage of smaller pics around it. maybe have some driviing along the panel lines, you know on the front where it curls down?

and the hanging thing... thats a great solution, but you can't exactly make great big holes in the walls of a rental property... damn!

show me the pics people!

eg: pics i wantt o use that i can think of off the top of my head- that yellowy-coloured sports 850 on one of the covers of TME (most recent one?), i want to put elmo on it, as well as spiro, the italian job minis chasing each other, a manton mini, a rally works mini. probably some out of the current mini calendar (that blue van off this month!!!)

i'd love to include every major model

You wouldnt neccessarily need to make big holes in the walls.
I'm thinking just lots of little ones, and distribute the weight out???

That, or how stupid is your realestate. I know I have 4 pictures hanging in my room where there weren't picture hooks before....

Maybe just put one big hook in, and make sure its sitting in a wall stud. Leave it there when you leave, the realestate probably wont notice.

Even if you did leave holes on your walls, they're not hard to fix/get fixed.
Ones I opened my bedroom door a bit to enthusiastically (was a bit angry) and the door knob went straight into the wall.... we've had 2 inspections since.... neither times the realestate lady has noticed (I realise that it is behind the door and she may not have looked) the first time it wasnt fixed, the second time it had been replastered, but not sanded back or painted...

Something like an easel as a stand would work..... YOu can pick them up pretty cheap I think. We have one, you can put big canvasses on them.

An easel would be the way to go, especially if you have a large bedroom.
Maybe you could get a crome one made up to give it that retro feel. :D
