Post subject: | Removing Underbody Sound Deadener |
I'm currently stripping my mini body for a repair and respray. I wanted to remove the sound deadener on the underbody to carry out rust repairs and replace it, and a guy I know said to use the oxy to heat up (not burn) the deadener and just scrape off with flat tool or the like. I commenced yesterday, and the stuff just peels off like magic. It's a bit messy keeping the tool clean but had the stuff off in no time. Just had to ensure all flammable bits on the inside were off as well. Cheers Brian |

Oxy is a bit drastic, a decent electric heat gun works pretty well. My Makita gets so hot i can silver-solder with it... ![]() |

I fixed rust on the bottom of my 1000s, all i did was clean it off with a wire wheel on a grinder the weld new metal on. Any left over under sealer just burns out of the way. |

It was a cool flame from the oxy, but after seeing the photos - sounds like a heat gun and wire brush is the go. Could eat your dinner off it! |
