read in the manual that after removing the column clamp and the bolt near the floor you can lift the steering column and (think it's called) the pinion shaft off the floor of the car turn it so the bolt is horizontal and the indicators will cancel .. is this correct. does the pinion shaft lift up easily .. cheers |

Mine did. But has only been bolted up for 4 yrs. |

yeah it will, but make sure you get the steering wheel facing the right way up once you've aligned it. When it's a few degrees out it in my car it gives me the permanent irrits. There's a couple of extra reasons it might not be cancelling. Generally you want the little cancelling hammer that's screwed into the column shaft to sit exactly halfway between the two cancelling arms on the indicator arm when the wheel is pointing straight ahead. If it doesn't cancel, it may also be that you need to unscrew this a turn or two and try it again. Make small adjustments however as it will snap the cancelling arms off the indicator stalk if you over do it. Once this is done you may want to remove the steering wheel and re-align it until it is pointing straight up when going straight down the road. Re tighten everything twice to make sure you get it right. You don't want the splines slipping on the rack once you're back on the road. |

thnks... it cancels to the right but not the left due to bolt (at the floor) sitting verticle when wheels are straight.. i'll have a look at this when i get some time.. all the advice has been much appreciated over the past couple of weeks. Cheers... Sean |

mine does the same, cancels to the right but not the left. if it cancels it does anyway. i like it though. |

Fiji Umm - I wonder if you have read the answers correctly. To check the cancelling hammer (screw) you need to remove the plastic shrouding on the column up near the steering wheel. Its there that the indicator mechanism lives. The cancelling hammer there must be half way between the two (left and right) cancelling arms when the steering mechanism is in the straight ahead position. The plastic cancelling arms become brittle over time and can break off. There is no quick fix and its either a trip to a mini wrecker of ebay for a another one. It is important to have the column alignment right and that the cancelling screw (hammer up near the steering wheel) is half way between the two cancelling arms. There must two - one to cancell left and one to cancel right. When you have done all that, it matu be that your steering wheel is askew when driving straight ahead. If thats the case, prise of the horn button assay (or the black rubber boomerang, in the case of a clubby) and undo the large nut holding the steering wheel in place. Lift off the steering wheel and move it a couple of splines until it is in the correct position drivig straight ahead. A word of warning here though. If a steering wheel has not been removed for some years it will be hard to take off. Therefore LEAVE THE LARGE NUT ON A COUPLE OF TURNS. Then jiggle the steering wheel while applying upward pressure on either side. The nut on a couple of turns stops the steering wheel suddenly coming off under force and hitting you in the face. |
