Post subject:  Help me decide please?
I am waiting of GR to get his delivery of flat top pistons for the 1100. He's been having trouble with his overseas manufacturer/supplier - long story. Talking to him the other day about what size to go. The block is currently 0.010" over. GR is getting 100,80,60 and he can't remember if there are 40s in the order as well. He said "go as big as you can - they really like it "

SO do I go 0.100" or do I go for 0.080" and give me 'room to expand' if I have too?

Go as big as you can, if any drama's happen down the track, a 1100 block is easily & cheaply replaced.

im at 1220 - 0.160" over if im not mistaken, id go to 0.100" small bore blocks are a dime a dozen :D an you can always go to imp pistons :P

Also I hear triumph 2000 pistons work too but I'm not sure maybe what I heard was maybe it was wrong but I do like the sound of it..

I go 100 over for sure. Listen and learn from Graham and you cannot go wrong!

go the 100 thou David

& for 1360LS --->the triumph 2000(tall piston) & 2500(short piston) pistons are for use in a large bore (1275) to take them out 160thou oversize to make a 1426cc

And pick up a 30 dollar 998 block for the back of the shed for that peace of mind. Then you won't have that niggling little concern anymore.

It'll make a good coffee table base too!

Thanks for all the relpys (I think :roll: ) I was looking for something a little more concrete. I'm not trying to second guess GR and I take his advise onboard. I'm trying to be an educated buyer . When I first started playing with cars a rebore and increase in piston size was considered major heart surgery and you took the smallest steps possible. Now I'm being advised to jump 4 sizes and 'go for broke' sort of and I would like to understand more of what I am going for, and am I leaving myself open to problems down the track

well, there should be pleanty of meat left if you go 0.100" over, i assume you can offset bore also, somone else can discuss this one?
maby GR shuld get a run of +0.120's :P

GR told me he has actually built one with 120s.... :lol:
I also used to run Imp pistons, they are 68.0mm. Need to offset bore the block for these, and often #4 bore hits the oilway from pump.... then need to either sleeve the hole or trash the block. :wink:
I agree, go +.100". 998 blocks are not exactly scarce.... :lol:
