Post subject:  Thermostat housing bolts

Hi,

I just changed my thermostat & now I can't get the bolts to grab onto the thread when bolting down the thermostat housing. The bolts I've got a 1-1/2" long. I went and got some new ones so the thread is better but still no dice... 2" bolts are too long I think.

It seems like the thread starts about 5mm down into the head... which makes me think the top part of the thread has stripped out :x I hope I don't have to re-tap the thread. Any idea?

Just run a tap (5/16 UNC) down into the hole, then make the screws as long as possible without bottoming.
I'd buy 2" ones and shorten until you are happy. 8)
