A question for all you Victorians out there as I'm sure every state has different rules.

I have a car on club reg with club "a", I'm also a member of club "b", I can use my car for runs that either club arranges or advertises in their newsletter (and must have a paper copy of the newsletter with me to prove I'm on a run).

The question is........ (drum roll....)

Could I use my club reg car for the cruise that's being organised on here?

I know Ausmini isn't strictly a club in that I'm not a "member" in the financial sense but, would membership here (and a print out of the run details) meet the requirements for using the car under the red plate scheme?

Any thoughts?

Nope.....outside the rules and spirit of the Historic Registration/Concessional Registration Scheme.

If you were a member of Club A (but Club X would be more exciting  ) you could go on runs in their calender. If you spoke to your Registrar about going on a run with Club B then the registrar could probably pre-approve that (generally speaking, so long as the other club was part of the CRS scheme).

actually the book that came with the club reg (via club 'a') does state that I can use the car on runs in the newsletter of any other club I'm a financial member of - that was the first thing I checked - as otherwise I'd need to have club reg with both clubs which would defeat the purpose a bit

As I understand it, in Victoria it is a Club Permit (not Registration) that is only available to financial members of clubs that are affiliated with AOMC. If you are a member of more than one affiliated club, then you only need one Permit (from one Club) to enable you to attend the advertised events of any of the affiliated Clubs that you are a financial member of. Stay tuned though because changes are in the wind!

Ausmini is unfortunately not one of these affiliated clubs so you can only use a car with a Club Permit on an Ausmini run if you get a special event permit from the Club that you obtained your Club Permit from.

This is one of the reasons why Ausmini has previously run events under the VMCI banner - BTW the VMCI is also CAMS affiliated which covers these events with insurance

How much is the Club rego compared to Standard?? I suppose you have to pay a certain fee each year to be in the club. What is the VMCI's annual fee?

Basically - How much more do you have to pay so that you can use it whenever you want and for as long as you want?

Yes you can!
Under the provisions of the Vic Club permit scheme, somebody in your 'Club A' should have a special permit book that allows you to participate in any sort of activity on the road, even if it's not in the Club's calendar.
The book is a series of duplicate pages onto which you note the details of your trip (date, destination, purpose etc) prior to the outing. It's signed by the person in 'Club A' who has this responsibility and yourself. You take the top copy (the original) with you, and the duplicate remains in the book.
You can use it for interstate trips, special outings and non-club activities.

That's why I could never put my car on club rego - I would feel as though I'm being "told" when I can drive my car. You can only use your car for this and that and club outings and you must carry paper work proving this etc.

There's no point in having a car if you don't drive it - if you want something like that just buy a model of that car. I know that normal rego doesn't suit everyone.

Anyways, I'm very happy to pay the full $520 (???? something like that) a year for normal registration as well as fully comprehensive insurance for a 19 year old so that I can use my car as much as I want and I feel better for it.

agreed re the feeling that someone is telling me when I can drive my car but..... check the signature line - at $520 a pop I can't justify registering them all, once the rules change down here to allow us 90 days in any calander year I'll be laughing - til then I wait

Yeah I can see that it would end up very costly for you but as I said that's why club rego has it's place. Hopefully the new laws come through for you and you can drive all of them more often - I'm sure they'll appreciate it! :D

if Ausmini runs were listed in the club calendar you'd be set... raise it at a meeting, they'll probably say no for insurance and whatever else reasons, but might be worth asking

Curl...all the above is possible...if you first clear it with the CRS Registrar of your club. I suggest everyone read the rules before going off half-cocked....saying you could only use a CRS registered car 4 times per year is not right....thats all the person chose to use it!!

Your log book allows up to something like 4000 Km per years on authorised events or activities. For a start you are allowed a weekly run within a few kilometeres radius to make sure brakes and oil galleries are well lubricated etc etc.

Regular trips to repairers are allowed.

Interstate trips to attend other clubs events are allowed by prior arrangement.

The whole scheme is run to allow those with Historic Vehicles to keep them in running order for a nominal sum....it operates on the premise that those who have CRS realise it is a privelege not to be abused....it is not cheap rego...if you want a daily runner and don't want to conform to the rules that everyone else has to...then go and get full rego!!

I am a club plate registrar and i do give out permits for people to use their CRS cars for non club events.

Its not telling peole when and if they can drive their cars but it is realising that its a heavily subsidised registration cost so that people WILL keep historic cars as living assets so that these vehicles willbe around for future generations as well as todays.

For that reason, us registrars, will protect the system from those who will abuse it. Having said that, i would give a permit to a club member who came to me and said that they wanted to drive their car to perth (or where ever) to participate in some event. This event could be anything from a recognised car club thing to a daughters wedding.

Its the spirit of the scheme that must be protected. Its controlled by the various state roads and transports and the scheme is abused they would quickly disband it and make us all pay full rego fees. The rego charge in NSW is about $70 including third party insurance. It is only a permit to drive an unregistered (but inspected) vehicle on authorised occasions.

So long as the Mini was not for hire Mike :!:

This discussion really is like Clubs or no Clubs....if you don't want to conform or enjoy the company of others with similar aims......guess what:?:.....you don't have to :!:

Cheers, Mick
