anybody a quick and easy method to replace the cv boot?

Get a quick easy ball joint cracker from supercheap is the easy way to change the CV boot out. This is always the place where the most time is wasted.

Do that and you can remove the shaft, replace the boot, get the bolts done back up and get out.

Yep - and make sure its the scissor lever type - not the bash the wedge type or the type that screws down directly on the threaded tie rod or threaded ball joint bolt.

If its necessary to remove the CV to change the boot - depending on the pot / uni joint type - take the whole axle assay onto the lawn. Hold it with the CV facing down to the ground and hit the CV with a hammer. The idea is to compress the circlip holding the CV to the axle.

Watch your feet - the CV will come off in a hurry when it does and thongs simply allow more pain.

I've seen these dodgy cv boot repair kits before. they're split in one side so you can wrap them around the cv without dissasembling, and then somehow stitch them shut.

I can't see them working so well...

Either pop the inner joint and feed the boot over the drive shaft, or pop the inner joint (or seperate rubber cross) take the hub assembly right out and seperate as described above.

One thiing that is not worth the hassle is trying to pop the CV with the hub in place....****** nightmare....

I agree about the 'zip up' solution....something has to be possible - maybe like the zip lock bags.....

They do work well but... they glue together and you CAN'T get any grease onto the surfaces - easier said than done when handling a greasy used CV in-situ while laying on you back under a mini on ramps :?
