Post subject: | exhurst question? |
ok im thinking of getting rid of the cannon on the back of tiny for 2 reasons 1. its to big and get wackedo n every bump 2. because sydney is about to put a ban on loud exhurst at certain hrs and the exhurst is way to loud already. what i was gonna do and i want ppls opinions on it is either have twin exhurst going towards the back corners on the mini with twin chrome tips or i was gonna have twin exhurst but make it come out juz infront of the rear tyre behind the door with a twin chrome tip on the end other wise my last option was to juz have piping right to the very back of the mini with a split and twin chrome tips on the end juz want to know is option 2 legal on a mini and what would be better |

I'd say twin chrome tips, just because it looks cool. |

Tiny, this is not legal in NSW as it has to exit the vehicle after the last opening to the vehicle cabin. As the back side windows open on a mini it has to go to the rear. Cheers Pete |

Post subject: | EXHAUST questions |
Having your EXHAUST in front of the rear wheels won't work on a couple of fronts , one is that an EXHAUST must come out 450 mm behind the last opening window to be legal , and also even a 1" pipe running under the sill of a mini will be only about 4" off the road at best (allowing a little bit of clearance from the pipe to the bodywork) and will be likely to be knocked off on speedbumps and kerbs . You're best to just get something with as little restriction as possible that's straight through without unneccesary bends and fancy bits . As for "2. because sydney is about to put a ban on loud exhurst at certain hrs" , they have that anyway , it's called getting defected for a noisy vehicle . Probably just means they are going to have a crack down on people hooning and having unro9adworthy cars ... |

nah its worse now sports, they are not only banning loud cars but also car alarms and steros after 10pm... if i put the twin exhurst out the back of it, it will be alot quieter then wat it is now |

how do you ban a car alarm after certain hours? "this is the emergency services" "MY CAR IS BEING STOLEN!!!" "how did you find out? is the alarm sounding? we'll be around to fine you shortly" thief "alright... everyone gotta turn their car alarms off by 10:00, just when i like to steal cars, when it is dark and everyone is asleep" |

Tiny - EXHAUSTs on a mini have been well studied and what works best is well known. Dont re-invent the wheel in this respect - do a search on EXHAUSTS fit something the same which will enhance the performance and economy of the mini without making you look and sound like someone trying to pretend they are driving a WRX. Most EXHAUSTshops can help by supplying one. BTW are EXHAUSTsystems one of the subjects studied at TAFE. |

yeah i have studied it at tafe already, but i was wonder if it was different on a mini. i dont want my mini to be like a wrx.. i was juz wondering what would look better im not worried about performance wise, i juz need to change from that ugly cannon on the back to something more nicer. and i know what u mean bat it is the most dumbest banning they have come up with in years, like car exhurst i can understand and steros thats ok to i guess what a car alarm is meant to protect ur car and alert if it is being stolen what good of use is it if it cant go off after a certain hrs |

Apart from the noise pollution issue, who takes notice of alarms anyway ??? They are always going off and nobody rushes forward to see why. Its just another common daily noise. You may if the alarm goes off outside your bedroom window but if its just another car on the street !!!!!! I think that other theft deterrent devices are a better bet than an alarm that everyone ignores. BTW I agree with cracking down on the owners of any alarms that do not switch off after a reasonable time. |

The worst thing about car alarms is that they go off for hours on end and throwing rocks at the car will not help. ![]() My neighbours have a friend with a Daewoo with an alarm. When they visit they will park their car in the driveway between our two houses and every visit the damn alarm goes off. ![]() Why on earth they would think that someone is going to pinch a Daewoo in broad daylight while parked between two houses is beyond me. If they left the keys in it with a sign on the rear window saying "free car" it would still be sitting in the same place. The neighbour on the other side is one of those Commodore owning doof doof, spin the wheels everytime he drives down the road type of blokes. Why is it that every Holden sounds crap with a sports exhurst? (8)) Why do they think that their Holden need to idle for ten minutes before driving down the road? |

yeah but any alarm that goes off for hours means that the owner isnt around to switch it off, oviously theres nothing that can be done about it |

Mick Your tag Wasn't that originally Prime Minister Billy Hughes at a public meeting who said "I am your country member" and some wag in the audience yelled out "yes I remember". Yes - who cares about car alarms - But maybe Tinymorris will get hints from this thread that most neighbours see his noisy exhurst ![]() |
